@KevvyBeeee @JohnDorney2 @scbbyrbbt @arisroussinos Most capitals east of Vienna. Dublin has remarkably preserved Georgian architecture. The only unpleasant part of Dublin is the north inner city. Imo it voids do with a lot more pedestrianisation.

@DrFrancisYoung @johnmilbank3 *Bishops are appointed by the Crown Nominations Commission based on demonstrably non-religious criteria. How else does one explain Paula Vennell’s near appointment, or Welby, or Mullally?

@DrFrancisYoung @johnmilbank3 I think it’s actually (1) an excess of ‘agility’ via synodal government which leads to lay people endlessly discussing The Latest Thing, and (2) the fact bishops are appointed by HMG based on demonstrably non-religious criteria.

@johnmilbank3 I think it may just be a matter of institutional agility; the CofE is such a lumbering behemoth that it is inevitably always fighting the battles of about a decade ago, even if the majority of clergy now realise the world has moved on

@JohnDorney2 @scbbyrbbt @arisroussinos I don’t like Brussels to spend time in, particularly lately, but architecturally it leaves Dublin in the ha’penny place. I’d rather live here, no question tho.

@JohnDorney2 @scbbyrbbt @arisroussinos Agreed. My point is that every other European capital has more nice parts and fewer ugly parts than Dublin. I’m genuinely wracking my brain to think of one that is less pleasant than Dublin and can’t.

@PedroCo67443965 @WalkerMarcus US Capitol Building, pastiche neo-classical. Palace of Westminster, pastiche Gothic. Literally every normal person is fine with what you denigrate as pastiche. Decoration, beauty, symmetry, adornment; modern architects view these things as impure or extraneous. You’re in a cult.

“Pastiche”: the slur used to justify inflicting bland or painfully ugly buildings on the public square. Yes, since you’re asking, I do like standing on the shoulders of giants and echoing the works of our forebears.
Bob Sacamano@PedroCo67443965

@UrbanCourtyard Yes, your images are a great example of the importance quality of public spaces. But for that you don't need the "neo-traditional" facades, imitating old buildings. It's pastiche, feels like a movie set or theme park.

@femboytradwife @KingdomAmalland @UrbanCourtyard Why is it ugly ???? Evaluating architecture simply as "beautiful or ugly, is superficial and uneducated. You must analyze their shape and form relating to use of space, to structure, to modern construction materials, relation to the surroundings, etc.

@shiningsweu Why is this more dangerous than bringing elements of the Maronite or Syro Malabar patrimony into the Church?

@KevvyBeeee The danger is bringing distinctive elements of the Anglican patrimony to the Catholic Faith. The danger is real, since Leo XIV and the hierarchy are very permissive.

@PatGrove2 @Neutral_OC The pope is the vicar (or deputy) of Jesus Christ on earth. He is the successor to St Peter, the Prince of the Apostles, and thus is regarded as an important figure. A papal blessing is something people avidly seek.

@Neutral_OC Genuinely, can someone explain this weirdness to me. Is it because of the history of Emperors as gods and gods/godesses becoming saints?

@WalkingHymnal @TooMuchCoffee67 Wasnt RFK’s funeral mass totally in English? And didn’t V2 mandate that “the use of the Latin language is to be retained”? Doesn’t strike me as a faithful interpretation of th council fathers’ wishes.

@TooMuchCoffee67 RFK's was a good example of the interim Missal. JFK's was a bad example of the TLM, & is honestly what many point to as a reason for needing the change. When it comes to the current Missal, I will say Justice Antonin Scallia & Mother Angelica's funerals top the cake.

Literally this. Especially when you understand the *actual history* of what happened between 1965 & 1970. Again I will die on the hill that if we would've just kept the Missal of 65, which was the *actual Mass that came out of V2*, so much of the Liturgy Wars would be null.
Scott Smith@hf_222222

Worth remembering that literally every Pope since the Council, except John Paul I due to lack of time, has changed the rules around the Vetus ordo. Which makes all the people turning themselves into a pretzel to avoid the fact Leo is about to do the same somehow funnier.

My feed has just been wall to wall this silly woman playing dress-up and everyone around her making silly googoo eyes at it. Why? We wouldn't hear a peep if it were just another Ab of C. It's ONLY because it's a woman. Which means, it's just more rejoicing over transgressivism.
Archbishop of Canterbury@ArchbishopSarah

I am Sarah, a servant of Jesus Christ, and I come as one seeking the grace of God, to travel with you in his service together. I am sent as archbishop to serve you to proclaim the love a Christ and with you to worship and love him with heart and soul, mind and strength.

What Did Francis Really Say? Read Francis through Benedict! At this point the people pretending Leo is inscrutable are the same as those who used to do the same early in Francis' pontificate. They know what he thinks isn't ambiguous, they just don't like the answer.

This is De Gaulle with his daughter, Anne, who had Down’s syndrome, on a beach in Brittany 1933. He doted on her and she lived with him and his wife all her short life at a time when children with disabilities were regularly institutionalised. She died of pneumonia in 1948 aged only 20. He carried a picture of her with him for the rest of his life. He was buried alongside her. A tale of unconditional, unlimited love.

Pope Leo XIV in a message to the French Bishops, tells them to find generous solutions to include those attached to the Traditional Latin Mass: “Dear brothers, you finally intend to address the delicate subject of the Liturgy, to which the Holy Father is particularly attentive, in the context of the growth of communities bound to the Vetus Ordo. It is troubling that a painful wound concerning the celebration of Mass, the very sacrament of unity, continues to open in the Church. To heal it, a new way of looking at one another, with a greater understanding of each other's sensitivities, is certainly necessary; a way of looking that can allow brothers, enriched by their diversity, to welcome one another in charity and the unity of faith. May the Holy Spirit suggest to you concrete solutions that will allow for the generous inclusion of those sincerely attached to the Vetus Ordo, in accordance with the guidelines established by the Second Vatican Council regarding the Liturgy.”
