@yacineMTB I would never put the care of my child in a stranger's hands. I understand some people don't have a choice. But I would rather they be home where we can instill them with our values, get them outside, and schedule tons of playdates with their friends and cousins.

46 hours in now. Fuckin' hurtin' bud. I lifted yesterday and today I am not sore, but achy everywhere, especially my joints. I stupidly went for a 2 mile walk and was completely spent. I drank some salt water and an electrolyte packet to help re-hydrate. I think the feeling I have is characterized as "keto flu" - I'm crossing the barrier where my glycogen reserves are depleted and I am relying on fat for energy - except my body isn't fully caught up and ready to process it (no idea what I'm talking about). Hoping this feeling passes soon because I am actually doing okay with the not eating as long as I stay busy. Worked until 10:30pm last night and I think it's the only way to succeed. As soon as I succumb to the boob tube, I am eating.

Starting a 5 day fast. I haven't eaten since dinner last night. Last night, after 3 hours without food, I watched Euphoria - I was already so hungry that those KY cocaine balls even looked appetizing. I can eat again starting with dinner on Friday. I will only be consuming water (lightly salted), black coffee, and matcha. At work this morning my brother started telling me about the roast lamb and potato dinner he will be eating tonight. Damn him to hell. To break the fast I am thinking two days consuming a combo of homemade chicken broth (with saffron for mood, turmeric for inflammation reduction, and black pepper to increase absorption), kombucha, and other blended fruits & veggies. I don't want to lose the fiber so not planning to go straight juice. Am I thinking about food too much already? I'm screwed. But, the thing I am worried about most is my bowel movements getting stuck. An enema seems out of the question. I've never stuck anything in the great beyond and I don't plan on starting now. My first CD was Enema of the State - my grandfather saw the album cover at my birthday party and was deeply ashamed. I didn't clock it for years. But ever since, I've been largely anti-enema. This all reminds me of the "anal bum cover" SNL jeopardy sketch - IYKYK - look it up if you dont, LIUIYD. Hopefully all the hot coffee (not the enema kind, just regular coffee consumption methods) keeps things moving. I'll report back soon.

Okay, I have this working. QMD smart chunking was updated to parse for page markers in the markdown and add it to the chunk's metadata. It provides pageStart and pageEnd. I also made the chunker obey code fences more strictly because diagrams are interpreted as Mermaid and images as descriptions in JSON... I don't want to break these up during retrieval. The next problem is that a ~800-900 token windows means chunks often span several pages. The RAG model won't know exactly which page to send a user to for their specific info. I think I need to add more page markers...

Converting PDF files to Markdown and smart chunking them... WHILE keeping the original doc's page number(s) in the embeddings' metadata... has been an interesting challenge. My PDF parser places `` tags appropriately throughout the md. Going to try adapting @tobi's QMD smart chunking algorithm to parse the page markers using regex, and place them in chunk metadata as pageStart and pageEnd values.

She was by herself with the baby, came home and wasn’t feeling well and had zero memory of anything happening, she just thought she came home because she was feeling dizzy. Couldn’t find her phone later in the afternoon, tracked it and found it in the stroller which she had left behind on the walk and had no idea she did it. She carried the baby home in her arms after the seizure and has no memory of doing that at all. Was down for 8 minutes with the baby before finally managing to get to her feet and stumble home. By pure luck our neighbors caught it on their security camera, scariest thing I’ve ever watched 😣 So scary that this can just happen to anyone with no warning. Hopefully just a freak thing 😰

Back at the hospital this week because my wife had a seizure while out for a walk 😣 Never happened before, never would’ve even known what actually happened if by some miracle my neighbors didn’t catch it on their security cameras for us to see after the fact. Scary shit 😩

@theo @RobinhoodApp Dude, okay, f them for sure. But also, did you try to handle it off the X platform first? It at least comes off like you immediately jumped on here to blast them. When creators use/leverage their following for these negative side quests, it's just a bummer.

Well said. I appreciate the insight here (I did use the Grok "Explain this post" button and it gave me some nice resources you've shared in the past). Our situation is complicated by the fact that our hardware and its underlying firmware are superb - maybe to the point that its a competitive moat. But the configuration, diagnostics, and troubleshooting GUI (and to a lesser extent our e-commerce site where we sell the product), all prioritize functionality over presentation and ease-of-use. Even so, I think all of the points you made ring true. It's just a more difficult internal sell to upper management. At some point in the future, that moat will shrink or disappear altogether. I think better UI/UX would considerably extend that lifespan.

Grok didn’t work here. But generally it’s hard to point in to specific metric or quantifiable values But you can still see the evidence in various aspects of the business. Simply the quality/UX investment creates fans and champions who spread the word. Those champion help close deals, reduces friction pilots, add additional weight to the decision making in each and increases retention. Most our deals are inbound, they become pilots because of the interest, pilots turn in to customers because the experience is good, and they don’t churn but expand the install over time, increasing net retention and retention in generally. You can prove it logically and anecdotally. No one is going spread or champion products that don’t work well or look bad. No one is going to stay to products that don’t feel good. Then anecdotally you can see in various deals as one of decision factors.

@karrisaarinen Our products are great but our software UI/UX is seriously lacking. How do I convince my bosses that better UI/UX has real, quantifiable business value? I've been racking my brain on this for months. All the benefits seem intangible. I know they exist: increased sales, reduced support time, competitive advantages, etc. But I can't quantify any of it.

Appreciate the feedback! Have been thinking for years about what we could do differently but still to this day don’t know what we should be pivoting to, so in the mean time it’s only made sense to do what’s at least working a little. Did try a few other new things and they all landed flat. What would you do?

Thoughts: 1. I respect Adam and what Tailwind has accomplished. It permanently changed how most frontends today are built. 2. I think this is a critical case study of AI's impact on open source and os attached business models that needs to be studied. 3. While I sympathize with Adam and the decline of Tailwind's cashflow forcing layoffs, this decline has been happening for quite some time now and yet they still focused on the same business model of selling UI components in a market now saturated with high-quality free libraries and pure AI-generated components. The tide shifted a long time ago and they failed to shift with it.

@rauchg I am champing at the bit to read the blog article about Vercel's internal customer support agent. This was mentioned a few weeks back as "coming soon". Any chance this is still in the works now that we're post-React2Shell? Gotta believe I'm not the only one eager to read this. Thanks for any insight!

@haydenbleasel I tried this again now that I'm back in the office. The LLM's list output post-Streamdown is still flat despite having the correct number of spaces. Here is the LLM response copied and pasted into react-markdown's parser.

Hey! No worries at all. I just copied some of your code into react-markdown's online editor and it does the same thing. It turns out that for nested lists to work in any environment, you need TWO spaces for each indent (current md only has 1). This is unfortunate as I can see it's GPT output. I'll see if I can proactively solve this in Streamdown but for now, I would ask your model two indent with two spaces so it's valid markdown.

@haydenbleasel Hey Hayden, I am using Streamdown as part of the AI Elements SDK's Message component. My bulleted lists aren't showing hierarchical indentation like I would expect. I attached a screenshot - the left panel shows the markdown while the right panel shows the rendered markdown. I upgraded to yesterday's Streamdown release, v1.6.8. If I am doing something dumb, you can tell me I'm dumb. I'll gladly accept that criticism. But for the life of me I can't figure it out. Thank you in advance for any help! Really appreciate all the work you're doing.

@haydenbleasel Thanks for looking into this! I could have sworn I counted two spaces - this is something I checked but it was quick. And I agree, looking back at the picture I posted it definitely appears like a single space.

@jackfriks Dude, it’s undeniably the best. Nothing compares. My life is so much better for having kids. Have as many as possible. 0->1 is the hardest. Some people stop here because they can’t believe how hard it is. 1->2 and 2->+ just gets easier and more fun.
