"Floor at 10 BEL." You've seen it on collection pages. But what does "floor" actually mean - and why does the number keep changing? The floor is simple: it's the lowest active listing price for a piece in that collection, on that marketplace. If someone lists their inscription for 10 BEL and no active listing sits below that, 10 BEL becomes the floor. Why floors move: → Someone sweeps the floor A buyer takes the cheapest listing, or multiple cheapest listings at once. Once the lowest-priced listings are gone, the next-cheapest listing becomes the new floor. Floor can go up. One thing to note: if several pieces are listed at the same floor price, buying just one won't shift the floor. Someone still has to take the rest. → Someone lists cheaper A seller drops a new listing below the current floor. Floor goes down. → A lister cancels The floor holder delists. If no other piece is listed at the same price, the next-cheapest piece becomes the new floor and the floor can go up. If another listing already sits at the same price, nothing changes. What floor actually tells you: It's the lowest visible price a holder is publicly asking to exit at — right now. That's useful information. But it's not the collection's "price". It's the cheapest visible entry point for buyers, and the lowest public exit ask from sellers. In thin markets, one low lister can drop the floor 50% in a minute. One buyer sweeping can double it just as fast. Floor is the loudest number on the marketplace. It's rarely the most informative one. So when you look at a collection: → Don't treat floor as the price of the collection. Treat it as the minimum someone wants to exit at — publicly, right now. → Read floor alongside volume. Stable floor + rising volume can be a stronger demand signal. Stable floor + zero volume just means no confirmed sales in that window — listings, offers, and delistings can still be happening in the background. → A cheap floor isn't automatically a deal. A high floor isn't automatically strength. Floor gets all the attention. Volume gives the floor its context.
