I recently designed a mobile shopping experience that balances business goals with user trust.
Key Design decisions that drive sustainable growth:
• Quality scores (8.3, 9.2) – Reduces low quality purchases that lead to negative reviews and customer service costs
• Size confirmation with checkmarks – Yes, returns generate repeat visits, but they also cost 15-30% of the item’s value in logistics. This reduces unwanted returns while maintaining genuine exchanges
• Smart filtering (Work, Gym, Weekend) – Increases basket size by helping users discover multiple relevant items in one session
• Visual ratings + persistent CTAs – Speeds up purchase decisions for confident buyers, reducing cart abandonment
• Organized saved items – Brings users back intentionally, not because they’re frustrated trying to find something.
The best customers aren’t the ones who return items, they’re the ones who buy confidently, receive what they expected, and come back to buy more. Returns are expensive, but lost trust is permanent.
