Uganda’s power supply remains stable and secure. However, to address emerging governance and accountability issues at Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited @UEDCLTD and strengthen oversight, the Government of Uganda @GovUganda and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development @MEMD_Uganda have undertaken targeted measures to safeguard service delivery and operational efficiency. These actions, led by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, are part of routine governance to reinforce accountability and institutional performance. I assure all Ugandans that electricity distribution services will continue uninterrupted during this transition.

@nextradio_ug That is exactly my take. When you read the letter from @KagutaMuseveni and is in the bill, they are two very different things. I do not know who is telling the truth.

Odonga Otto: This bill (Protection of Sovereignty Bill), what the President intended is not what is before the parliamentary committee. This is treason. Someone added their own ‘things’ into the sovereignty bill. Someone should be held accountable. #NextBigTalk #NBSUpdates

Fellow Ugandans, especially the Bazzukulu. Habaari. Greetings to all of you. Of recent, I have noticed a lot of orwaari (noise, kelele), regarding the Sovereignty Bill. Which Sovereignty Bill is the rwaari about? The one I initiated in the Cabinet or another one? The Bill will stop FDIs (Foreign Direct Investments), support for religious bodies from abroad, Remittances from Ugandans working abroad, etc., etc. Really!! That is not the Bill I initiated. Below is clarification on what I initiated.

The problem of Uganda is people like Kiryowa Kiwanuka whom you expect to use their intellect for the betterment of the country. However they choose to sell their country for selfish interests. The so called educated people have let down this country.

@nbstv This is my MP who has never spoken anything in Parliament apart from when he was being sworn in. He managed his way again for the next 5 years through mechanical methods. The quality of the MP's needs to be raised.

@pwatchug These MP's are being myopic. They passed the POMA which they thought it was against @kizzabesigye1 until @AmamaMbabazi joined opposition politics. It applied to him without favor. The arresting officer was Kawesi but he treated AM with dignity.

Passing this law would be the greatest gift to the enemies of this country - Butembo County MP, David Livingstone Zijan The Butembo County MP, David Livingstone Zijan has said that the individuals behind the drafting of controversial The Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026 are the real threats to Uganda’s sovereignty, after Bank of Uganda warned Parliament that the bill when passed in its current form will weaken the Uganda’s shillings, threaten to run down Uganda’s foreign and disrupt Government’s abilities to pay its debts. “I think that passing this law would be the greatest gift to the enemies of this country. That the bill passing, our enemies would not need to do anything. Actually, our enemies need to fund this bill, they need to put effort in making us pass it in the way that it is. I think that whoever thought of it and drafted it is really the threat to our sovereignty,” said Zijan. Courtesy Photo

@nilepostnews Do you all remember the saga of @AnitahAmong owning houses in the UK that she rents out? This means that she will also not be able to remit her money back home. Let them pass the bill and they will dance to the music too.

@BOU_Official We need to amend the laws in regards to qualification for being a member of Parliament. You can imagine a senior six drop out questioning a PhD holder. What oversight and policy can the MP's make when they are ignorant themselves. They have been corrupted by the money bribes.

"Chairman, a country without reserves is not sovereign. The potential of this Bill to destabilize Uganda’s balance of payments is our primary concern as a central bank. For example, last financial year the overall balance of payment surplus was USD 1.5 billion. That’s how we were able to increase our reserve coverage by USD 1.5 billion. Today as we speak our reserves are close to USD 6 billion. Why? Because these inflows have been coming in. The moment you tamper with these inflows here, we risk running down our reserves, and that is economic disaster for a country.” Governor Atingi-Ego on the Protection of Sovereignty Bill 2026 in an appearance before Parliament today.

That is the ugly position the government has put us into. There is a big, big problem, ... “What we are doing today, is what should have been done by government.” said Katuntu. Katuntu stated that from the moment the Governor started his submission, he was grappling with many questions in his mind as to what is going on in Uganda because the scrutiny of the Bill by Parliament should have been done by the Executive through consulting relevant stakeholders so Government agencies don’t come before Parliament to oppose the same bill. “What we are doing today, is what should have been done by government. Talking to the central bank, talking to FIA, talking to Makerere University, talking to banks, talking to literally people who should be the stakeholder. But from all of them as they have appeared here, they seem to be so confused about who actually brought this sort of legislation here. That is the ugly position the government has put us into. There is a big, big problem,” said Katuntu. Courtesy Photo

This only happens in Uganda. How can MPs be inducted before assuming office (swearing in)? The 11th Parliament cannot induct the 12th Parliament. This induction must be stopped, @ Pres. @KagutaMuseveni
Trill~Ug🇺🇬🛠️🇨🇺🛠️🇷🇺@TrillUganda

JUST IN: Hon.Nobert Mao @norbertmao has petitioned the clerk to parliament @Parliament_Ug to hold the induction of members of the 12th Parliament after the election of speaker and deputy speaker citing possibility of a distraction from the objectives of the induction and the fact that the 12th Parliament will only be considered fully constituted after the Speaker and Deputy Speaker have been elected. He also questions the motives behind the outgoing Speaker deliberately lining up her loyalists especially from the political class to be the main presenters. @Parliament_Ug @pwatchug @AnitahAmong @nbstv @bbstvug @TayariWestTV @DailyMonitor @KagutaMuseveni @mkainerugaba @ChimpReports @ubctvuganda
