NE India Catholic Bishops Condemn “Brutal” Ambush on Kuki Baptist Leaders, Urge Justice and Protection Guwahati, 14 May 2026: — The North East India Regional Bishops’ Council (NEIRBC) has expressed deep shock over the reported ambush on Kuki Baptist leaders along the Kangpokpi–Lamka Road, which killed several respected church leaders and left others seriously injured. Calling it a “cruel and painful act of violence,” NEIRBC said the victims were innocent servants of God and messengers of hope, peace, and reconciliation in a region already suffering pain and division. The Council stated that killing unarmed pastors and church workers “can never be justified for any political, ethnic, or ideological grounds” and violates the dignity of human life. Strongly condemning the attack, NEIRBC appealed to the Government of India, the Government of Manipur, and all law enforcement agencies to ensure justice and provide protection to innocent people. Tengnoupal CSOs Extend 48-Hour Shutdown to 15 May for Slain Pastors’ Funeral, Exempt Essential Services Tengnoupal, 14 May 2026: — Civil Society Organisations of Tengnoupal District have extended the 48-hour shutdown called by Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) till 6:00 pm on 15 May 2026, to honour three Kuki-Zo religious leaders killed in Manipur on 13 May. The shutdown, initially slated to end at 12:00 noon on 14 May, was extended because funeral services for the deceased are scheduled for 15 May. The endorsing groups include the Kuki Chiefs Association, Hill Tribal Council, Molnoi Area Welfare Council, Kuki Students’ Organisation, and Kuki Women Union & Human Rights. Medical services, water supply, flights, customary marriages, church programmes, and funeral services are exempted from the shutdown. Vehicular movement of CSO leaders for meetings and emergency programmes is also permitted. All shops, business activities, and other vehicular movements will remain closed till 6:00 pm on 15 May.
