UG tops the list as Africa's largest coffee producer & exporter, producing both Robusta & Arabica coffee, with Robusta making the largest portion of its production. Surprisingly, only 3-7% Ugandans consume UG Coffee. Imagine the economic growth with increase in local consumption

STOP 2: Kibinge Coffee Farmers’ Co-operative Society Ltd🌱 The delegation was warmly received by the Kibinge team and taken through a comprehensive presentation on the organisation’s operations and product range by the General Manager Mr. Ssekyayi Ashiraf. ✅Located in Kibinge Sub-county, Bukomansimbi District in the central region of Uganda along the Equator. ✅Founded in 1995 and registered in 2009 as a cooperative. Fair trade certified in 2011 and registered coffee exporter in 2012. Currently serving 2,439 total active member farmers focusing on Robusta coffee production and export. ✅Core Business services: Buying, processing and exporting coffee🌱🫘 and also started value addition services such as roasting and grinding coffee beans 🫘 - Support communities with Financial services (savings & credit), farm inputs, improved coffee seedlings, coffee processing among others. ✅Production Capacity - Average Acreage per Farmer: 2 acres - Estimated Total Acreage: 4,878 acres - Annual Yield: Approx. 4,683 Metric Tonnes of Fairly Average Quality (FAQ) Robusta coffee - Production per Acre: Around 960 kg of FAQ coffee Mr. Ssekyayi noted that one of the challenges faced by the organisation and member farmers is limited Financing thus affecting capacity to scale exports. Amb. Oliver Wonekha commended Kibinge Coffee Farmers’ Cooperative Society Ltd for producing high-quality robusta coffee and products in 🇺🇬 that serve both local and international markets, and encouraged further partnerships with Chinese 🇨🇳 businesses.
