Around 30 firefighters are tackling a blaze at a building on Union Street. It was reported around 3.45pm. No reports of any injuries at this time. People are advised to avoid the area if possible and residents should keep windows closed. Road closures and diversions in place.

The building’s now fully ablaze. A loud bang was heard before a huge plume of black smoke rose into the sky, with flames ripping through the building.

Armed police called to Edinburgh’s Calder area over man with bladed weapon Armed officers, including firearms units, attended an incident in the Calder area of west Edinburgh this morning after reports of a man with a bladed weapon. Police Scotland confirmed the public should avoid the area, with high-rise residents in Calder Gardens told to stay inside. Multiple police cars were at the scene near Cobbinshaw House South on Calder Gardens from around 9am. Local reports mentioned possible injuries to several people, though official updates have not confirmed this. A lockdown affected some homes.
