@NonFlyingIceman @thearsfamily97 While I understand that the Mikel system demands it, I also know that it takes a lot away from the attackers games. Saka, Nelli, Eze have all been over coached to doing basic stuff and defending. Why buy Eze only to reduce him to a defender?

We all know his weakness is his defensive effort. But unlike Vinicius, it's possible (key word being possible) that he can learn to work harder. He doesn't have much of an ego, tbh. He's just lazy off the ball. Kvara would be the perfect Arteta winger, but he's locked at PSG now. Leao is not really an Arteta winger. To be honest, the main reason I've become more positive on Leao than used to be about improving his defensive work is that he REALLY loves Arsenal. He's more or less a fan of the club, so I'd assume he won't be a diva and strive to work harder when he joins. That being said, this is still a risk. Look how Eze is suffering due to OOP issues (tbf, Leao won't be playing in midfield or striker. He'll be playing winger, so his OOP demands won't be as high.) I also think his mentality stops him from converting his massive talent to consistent output. Seeing how Madueke has improved in his OOP, crossing, and output at Arsenal has given me some hope, though that Leao can get better at these. As always with me, it'll all depend on the price. It seems he'll be significantly cheaper than the likes of Barcola and Rodrygo, but who knows? Let's see. His attacking talent is undeniable but talent without the right mentality towards consistency is meaningless. I'm cautious about him joining, very cautious.

We scored an own goal + a scruffy set piece tap in from 15 attempts meanwhile United 2 worldies from 10 attempts. - Dorgu had 2 shots all game and scored a worldie - Cunha's only shot was a 0.03 xG worldie So it's not always about volume; need the players to produce.

@timstillman_ It’s my one, maybe unfair, criticism of MA’s philosophy. The lack of courage to take that risk, particularly at home. We’ve prioritised managing risk over killing teams off in certain games this season. I just feel uncomfortably reliant on the fine margins going our way at times.

Liverpool have drawn five of their last nine and that’s why tonight was always likely to play out like this. They stopped the rot of defeats by keeping the ball for long periods of time (but they don’t take enough risks with it at the moment to create a lot either). Said on the pod on Monday I felt 0-0 likely and that’s why. Another tough game done with a good lead.

@timstillman_ I don’t think the near constant hoofing the ball back to Liverpool, being second to every loose ball and sloppy loose passes in possession had much to do with Liverpool “creating the conditions for a 0-0” though. That was just Arsenal being poor.

Think the defeat at Villa Park has shaped a number of things we've seen at Arsenal in the subsequent weeks. 🔴Arsenal were transitioned on far too easily at Villa which has probably played into greater caution in ensuing weeks ⚪️We haven't seen Eze out wide again, probably due to doubts over defensive output there at the moment (Martinelli and Trossard fit again also has an impact there). 🔴We haven't seen Merino upfront again (though again, fitness of Gyokeres probably a bigger reason for that. Merino with Eze central also makes a lot more sense that Merino and Odegaard). ⚪️Saka was subbed for Madueke at Villa with the game in the balance (a changed that worked against Bayern). Haven't seen that since.
