@Graham_Mark_E It depends on the time period. Middle Roman Republic was really quite good on the whole, with the exception of wars. Later Republic and Empire was a massive slave-driven grist mill of dispossessed biomass.

Do you think their children will stick with it? It can oftentimes be these cohorts that persist and rebuilt the TFR later on, as in the US right now.
