A barrister is facing a criminal record and even prison after he pulled 200 bags of rubbish from a section of the River Roding in Barking
Paul Powlesland aged 40 a barrister and environmentalist organized volunteers to clear 200 bags of rubbish including needles and weapons from a polluted section of the River Roding in Barking east London in March 2026 using a hired digger.
The Environment Agency sent him a letter alleging he carried out works without an environmental permit launching an investigation under the Environmental Permitting Regulations with potential penalties of up to two years in prison.
Powlesland said this river will be restored they now have a clear choice they can fight me and all the other amazing volunteers doing the work or they can get on board and help us and become the good guys in this.
He added we have got irises and reed beds coming back I saw fish in there for the first time a couple of weeks ago dragonflies and herons returning with the whole ecosystem coming back to life.
The EA said they welcome communities taking steps to improve their local environment but insisted undertaking work without the appropriate permits is not acceptable to prevent unintended harm to flood risk drainage or the wider environment.
Powlesland vowed to continue his clean up efforts criticizing the need for licences for volunteer work and pointing to an upstream Thames Water sewage outlet as a source of pollution.

After selling his business, a Texas father built a $51 million amusement park inspired by his daughter with special needs. Named Morgan’s Wonderland, the park offers free admission to all guests with special needs, has welcomed more than a million visitors since opening, and employs a workforce in which roughly one-third of staff members have special needs.

What David fails to mention here is where the I$raeli soldiers were killed. Just for clarity they were in Lebanese sovereign territory as an invading/occupying force
Lebanon has the right to defend itself, enshrined in international law.
But David seems to think that I$rael should have the right to carry out killings and massacres with impunity and complains when its soldiers face resistance.
You couldn’t make it up.

“Dedicated her life to saving endangered turtles…..and Israel targeted her house.”

Very sad to learn that Mona Khalil died after weeks in the ICU following an Israeli strike that levelled her home in Mansouri. She was a very well-known environmental activist and dedicated her life to saving endangered turtles. She stayed in the south despite Israeli strikes because of her love for the land. She was a civilian, a renowned figure but Israel targeted her house. CNN profiled her in 2017 here: edition.cnn.com/2017/08/17/mid… “I live every day to the fullest and don’t worry about tomorrow,” she told the newspaper.

A very dangerous new nightmare we are living in Gaza City, and no one in the world is paying attention to it.
Days ago, the Israeli army installed huge military cranes, each about 30 meters tall, on the eastern areas it controls. These cranes are equipped with machine guns and cameras, and they fire randomly and almost continuously at tents, streets, and exposed neighborhoods.
Gaza City is extremely narrow, only 10 kilometers wide. A single crane at that height is enough to expose the entire city from east to west. Every street, every square, every tent, every house has become completely exposed. There is no place to hide, and not a single moment of safety.
In just the past two days, three people were killed by fire from these cranes. One of them was sitting quietly with his father in a small café, trying to breathe for a few minutes. Hours later, a 5year old girl was killed while playing near her home.
These cranes have turned the entire city into an open field. The latest military technologies are directed at civilians. We have become an open testing ground for their new weapons. The horror is not just in the sound… it is the constant feeling of being an exposed target at all times, where even children cannot run in the street without fear.

Nigel Farage MP@Nigel_Farage
The voters are telling me that Andy Burnham is using Makerfield as a stepping stone.
