What does a human become when they aren’t dragging meat home from the jungle? What does a species become when the printing press, then the internet, then the genome, then the model are each just another step in the same long story? Us choosing connectivity over scarcity, again and again? We are some of the first generations of humans to ever live inside real biological abundance. Food is not the daily question and for many of us, infant mortality is not the daily terror, and knowledge is not locked behind scrolls and lineage. The DART mission proves we can even deflect an asteroid! We are conscious and beautiful. Every ancestor you have was shaped by scarcity. Our nervous systems still are. WE ARE RUNNING SCARCITY SOFTWARE ON ABUNDANCE HARDWARE. Earth’s abundance came from oceanic connectivity. Human abundance is the same trick on land. We’re the first generations to actually live inside it, and our nervous systems haven’t caught up. Most of the oxygen you’re breathing didn’t come from a tree. 50–80% of it comes from marine plankton, algae, and cyanobacteria. Forests are roughly net zero; plants release oxygen by day and consume it at night. Life proliferates anyway. Because of the ocean. The ocean is the largest abundance engine on Earth. Because it’s connected. DOM cycles and currents and nutrient dissolution is how the biosphere worked out win-wins down there long before anything crawled onto land. Capitalism is the same trick above water; one of connectivity beating scarcity and Win-wins beating zero-sum games. This didn’t start in the 2000s with the genome or in the 2010s with GPT. Those are downstream. The miracle started when something in the ocean figured out it was better to share carbon than hoard it. We are the inheritors of that. Most of us don’t even know it. Our entire existence is mostly a consequence of crushing scarcity with abundance. It is the only way forward.
