After a slow start in which he gave up his legs too easily (and a pair of stall calls), #6 Drake Ayala flips a switch and routs #11 Tyler Ferrara (Cornell) via 19-4 TF. I think that 2nd stall call lit a fire under the Fort Dodge native - and it got ugly from there 😤

Dean Peterson is headed to the quarterfinals - converting a low single midway through the 3rd period then riding out #9 Maximo Renteria (Oregon St) for the 4-1 win. Now one win away from his 1st All-America honor, Peterson's first crack will come against #1 Luke Lilledahl (PSU).

UCLA has missed 13 threes and that’s 13 more than it feels like they’ve missed.

🚨Correction to an earlier (deleted) post🚨 Gabe Arnold finishes 9th at 197 - winning the 11th place 'bracket' - and WILL earn one of the conference's 10 NCAA allocations at the weight. (I'm back covering the Iowa men for five seconds & I'm already stumbling over myself 🤦‍♂️)

@DavidEickholt yeah but as a person who keeps track of Vegas betting lines in WBB they haven't even hit 50% accuracy in the B1G tournament alone...so again grain of salt!

Iowa is an 11.5 point underdog today to UCLA. Hawkeyes lost 88-65 in the only regular season meeting against them.

Kylie Welker is now a 3x national champion! The Iowa junior rolls to a first period tech. fall at 180lbs over #2 Destiny Rodriguez (McKendree), 11-0. With the win, Iowa has also nudged ahead of McKendree in the team title race, 160.5-157.5.

@JonathanIrvin06 this team isn't making march madness what are you saying. Ben McCollum is a horrible coach that plays down to his opponents level when playing against super weak teams like Maryland and Penn State. Stirtz is a nervous wreck in a must win game. Sorry ass team

Tensions are running high right now for both teams. Tons of jawing back and forth as Ava Heiden gets the layup to go. Hawkeyes lead 50-40 with 4:59 remaining.

@hutch_golf Haha nice! Always an adventure. Sometimes on 8 (think mid July Iowa, dry as the Sahara and hotter than the hinges of hell) the ball will roll back down to you by the bunker if you don’t hole the uphill putt 😂😂

@SJLockwood97 That's why I said I like the range. Unfortunately almost all players tend to base things off the high end of that range.

I like this because it provides ranges for the 7 iron. Too often players think it goes X distance, when a lot of times it doesn't, especially later in the round. Does this match up with the distance you play on the course?

That gut punch result at 174 puts the Hawkeyes in a really tough spot - now trailing Michigan 13-5 at intermission. Needless to say, just about every match from here on out will be critical to mounting a comeback at Carver.

#3 Patrick Kennedy falls to #11 Beau Mantanona, 6-3 in SV... PK led 2-0 after controlling regulation, but Mantanona scored a last-second TD - then gave up a stall call which forced SV. PK nearly won again off an early snap, but a desperate scramble gave Mantanona the W instead.

@Top100Rick I was watching on 18 and the putt looked like he backed off due to the blimp. I didn’t hear anyone yell, but could have happened. 18 tee box was apparently a chair? No idea if that chair had money on Gotterup but I wouldn’t be surprised.

Many are blaming the fans and WM atmosphere for the Hideki interruptions. Twice he had to back off due to fan interruption. Two things can be true: The fans should STFU during the swing. Pros need to be able to regroup and hit a fairway.

@SHistorians Yeah as far as I heard the writer Herbert Warren Wind grouped them as the “four majors” writing in the early/mid 1950s. But the Western Open and Amateurs were as highly regarded too at one point. But yes time and tradition are all a big part too.

Nothing unnerves me more than people trying to sell the Players as a Major Championship. Why do we insist on watering down the importance of four majors. Did it make it better for the women’s game? The Players is a fantastic golf championship - it doesn’t have to be a major to be amazing. I also do not see a road for it ever becoming a Major. Just buy the PGA Championship and call it a day.

@tywebbs @samuelammonn @jared_bence Hold on a second. You had the same club head speed, an increase in ball speed, and no change in smash? The math there doesn’t make any sense. By definition, if your club head speed stays the same and ball speed goes up, your smash has gone up.

Interesting stat from Farmers. Jason Day averaged 169.7mph with driver. He was only 172.7mph last season. I know he’s had injuries, just not a guy you associate with being well below average in speed. He used to be top 10 in speed. He peaked at 178 in 2015.

No one will agree here ... but take the points. Make it 31-30. There's five minutes left. You have to get a stop regardless to get the ball or win the game. They Seattle defense hasn't stopped you all 2H. Make a FG win it. I just don't get these coaches man ...

@Kize34 @MatPulse30402 PK was not warned for stalling in the 2nd period - BTN got that wrong. Listen to the referee during the sequence & watch his signal after. A stalemate is called (not stalling) b/c NEB rolled to IA’s leg first & then PK responded. Had it been reversed it’d have been stalling.

It didn’t ultimately prove costly, but boy was that a generous ‘three seconds’ of riding time awarded to Nebraska in TB1 at 174lbs… PK was up and out of there damn-near faster than you can say the word ‘escape’ 🤷🏼‍♂️
