Couldn’t be prouder supporter of collective power of workers to unionize tonight. A black women at the helm of @SEIU invoking the future, a woman leading @AFLCIO, & my factory-worker mom’s @UAW union leader calling out LGBTQ+ attacks by other side #UnionStrong #DNCConvention2024

@AndyKnny For decades prior to sponsoring Denver's 2019 min wage, wages for service workers failed to keep pace w housing prices We've had as much "earning lag" here as a "housing crisis" Yearly increases to minimum wage help workers keep up. Wages=housing strategy $18.81 in 2025 will help

“Janitors across the Denver metro stood together and fought hard for this,” Denver janitor Verónica Escobedo stated. “This contract will put us on a path to livable wages and raises the bar for our industry across the country. This is a massive victory.” denverpost.com/2024/07/27/den…

@JonMurray Check out my top line analysis of Denver's housing need as it pertains to this proposed sales tax for housing to understand why refining the focus on households with greatest need is a big deal: x.com/KniechAtLarge/…

Tomorrow @DenCityCouncil committee sees @MikeJohnstonCO proposed sales tax for aff housing. Breakdown of Denver's need: 63% for families earning < $62,640 (2 ppl). Look forward to hearing how funds prioritized for these homes including resolving homelessness permanently 1/3

“How many new fees & tax increases does it take to make us affordable?” @kflynncolo asked today. His opposition to the Denver mayor's housing sales tax proposal wasn't fully shared by colleagues, but the City Council hit the brakes -- and has questions. denverpost.com/2024/07/24/den…

@DenCityCouncil taking til 8/7 to refine proposal. In addition to AMIs (see 🧵) looking at: a thorough review on date certain, strengthening oversight. These are fundamental best practices in every city doing this kind of fund. Great leadership on important & critically needed $

Happening now: @DenCityCouncil thoughtful questions & suggestions on strengthening details in @MikeJohnstonCO's affordable housing sales tax. Many using data on need (in this 🧵) to request AMI targets, while acknowledging flexibility for mixed-income, more planning later.

Exciting prospect for needed affordability funding. It is right to believe Denver can breakthrough & make bigger impact. But we can have both hope & high standards for public $. Both vision & implementable details. Both innovation & reliance on evidence, best practices. 2/3

Friend circle’s been talkin’ lots ‘bout Ruth Bader Ginsburg lately. Every appreciation marred by consequences of her decision not to step aside sooner. Whew. Once in a generation is enough. Thank you Pres Biden, for a legacy of service.
