@IAmNor6 @hazardous_art When you sell a design you are selling the rights to use the design, make merch, etc. However you do not purchase the rights to the art itself. It is an individual IP owned by the artist made on creation. So if the AI is trained on the art that falls under this legal umbrella.

“I sold it to you, but I still want to control what you do with it afterward” is not a winning strategy.
These artists have been trying to do this "no AI" thing in the TOS for a while, only to lose more customers and clients as they push more people towards AI.
The entitlement is baffling, acting as if the purchased artwork is more like a digital license that can be revoked. Even paid works come with endless TOS agreements against commercial work, copying, or modifications... Why bother with the headache when you can just make something yourself with AI?
If you don't own the thing you buy, then everyone is free to go elsewhere and black list these annoying "artists".

@mhael_fox @FlameKainz Its always been this way, its how US Copyright law functions. You never own anything but your copy of a piece unless you explicitly buy the copyright off the artist. Which is gonna cost you 10x the price of commission generally. Artist retain the rights to their work by default.
