@Tramp_ Yes Neil, really lovely bloke. His late wife Ellen, from the north of Germany, was also a v keen Wagnerian and their last years together were something of a shuttle service to various opera houses over here.

@KnutCrosswords I’m so sorry to read this, Rob. I met Colin a couple of times and he sent me some lovely messages. As well as a great crossword man he was also a very keen Wagnerian and a good friend of the late, great Neil Shepherd.

I was saddened at the weekend to learn of the death of former FT crossword ed Colin Inman. He was a lovely man and a joy to work for. I met him several times both in the UK and Germany and we kept in touch after his retirement in 2022. He did the job for just the 42 years. RIP
