This should destroy Nigel Farage’s entire political argument. Net migration has collapsed from 944,000 to around 204,000, yet voters still think it’s rising because Reform and Farage have spent years feeding Britain hysteria instead of facts. Asylum seekers are only about 9% of immigration, not the “invasion” constantly screamed about. The NHS was broken by underfunding. Housing was broken by austerity. Wages were crushed by corporate greed. Migrants were the distraction. Not the cause.

Net migration has fallen 82%. I promised to restore control to our borders. My government is delivering. I know there’s more to do, we’re introducing a skills-based migration system that rewards contribution and ends our reliance on cheap overseas workers.

I was confident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision. Let me put the record straight in plain English. We had no plans at all to visit this venue. Rob was taking us on a tour of the constituency to places which meant something to him. He took us to an old factory site next to the canal to start the tour. This was a factory where Rob used to work ( if you're not familiar with the term 'work' it's something working class people do day in day out and it involves getting your hands dirty). As we drove around he decided to take us to a fishing lake where he has fished. Once there we saw a cafe and decided to have a cuppa and use the toilet. I am confused as to why the lady sent the letter as she sat with us talking to us all about the cafe and the challenges it faces. She then asked for a selfie with Rob and Nigel and thanked us for the visit. We then left. On entering the car park I came across a very shaken looking @christiancalgie who I believe had been subject to a torrent of verbal abuse, some of it by yourself. We know there is a lot of pressure on yourself to become Labour leader but this type of gutter politics has no place in the UK. The cafe is a great place doing great work and as a supporter of these types of establishments I know full well about the financial challenges they face and the conversations these establishments have with politicians to secure funding. It now makes me wonder why this letter has been sent and I just hope this cafe is not being taken advantage for political gain.

Why does the Tory media not report them?

@KnutCrosswords I’m so sorry to read this, Rob. I met Colin a couple of times and he sent me some lovely messages. As well as a great crossword man he was also a very keen Wagnerian and a good friend of the late, great Neil Shepherd.

I was saddened at the weekend to learn of the death of former FT crossword ed Colin Inman. He was a lovely man and a joy to work for. I met him several times both in the UK and Germany and we kept in touch after his retirement in 2022. He did the job for just the 42 years. RIP
