@pestctrlguy Been following for a while. Do you have a price in mind you’ll sell for? If you can get 8x edbitda today vs 4x ebitda in a couple years worth it to sell today?

Question- are we looking at last years EBITDA, TTM, or last three years average when we’re talking acquisitions? I feel like when I hit into the game everybody preached 3 string years of financials but it seems like now everybody is buying based off what the company did last year.

I’ve never interacted directly with Chanos but I found out recently he blocked me lol. I can only assume 1) it’s because I randomly will say tongue in cheek that shorting is for losers 2) he finds my small biz or pod tweets annoying or 3) he hates Koreans, hates that I have tweeted shorting is for losers and also hates my small biz and pod tweets

On a crazy warm day in New Jersey today, I did the following: 1) Fully paid off 7 figures of personally guaranteed SBA debt via a pledged asset line at Schwab (wiring 7 figures gave me some heart palpitations if I’m being real) 2) Communicated a 10 percent price to GM and Ford for poly bags effective next week (will see how they react 😳) x.com/blueprintsmb22…
Blueprintsmb@blueprintsmb22

I'm going to go through the process of using a Pledge Asset Line (PAL) at Schwab to pay off my entire 7a SBA loan this week. Over 200bps of savings on the interest rate, no personal guarantee and interest only. Note that I'm doing this in year 4 of business ownership after having paid off close to 7 figures of SBA debt in 3 years with $450k capacity on my undrawn line of credit with mid 6 figures of cash in business checking. Several hundred thousands of free cash flow per year will be freed up immediately. This whole process started from a question on X from @SBAdealCloser. Box spread loans could be cheaper but the higher maintenance of structuring and having to repay principal at times just made me push to PAL structure for simplicity. I will continue to pay down principal of debt each year but no longer will have to pay $15k each month as required by the current SBA loan schedule. I appreciated the balanced discussion on X from others and got feedback from other business owners that know the situation in more detail. What others said (most seem to push for complete payoff of 7a): 1) Another SMB manufacturing owner (ex banker, ex tech W2) => he recommended I just refinance my SBA debt with another SBA loan or conventional debt. He thought I should preserve debt capacity down the road with PAL option should I want to buy a home, etc. He isn't a fan of interest only as he think it's smart to pay down debt every year. Fair points 2) Another SMB manufacturing owner (ex banker) => he was in the camp to pay off the entire 7a with PAL; he is in the process of buying the building he operates in from his seller and isn't considering a PAL to help fund the equity check or finance the deal currently as most of his liquidity is in cash or 401k 3) Former Morgan Stanley banking analyst colleague now entrepreneur owning healthcare practices, agricultural assets and real estate => pay off entire 7a with PAL unless I had other bigger uses of capital where he recommend I use the PAL to start another business, do an acquisition 4) Former banker now SMB owner in lab testing biz => pay off entire 7a with PAL x.com/blueprintsmb22…

My bench came in clutch today. Every time we are hiring, we hire our best applicant. If there is anybody that interviews really well but comes in 2nd or 3rd place, we keep them in a google sheet. This comes in handy anytime we are extremely busy or have someone quit unexpectedly. Yesterday we realized we are undermanned and needed a hire asap. Instead of posting on indeed, waiting a week, doing interviews, extending an offer, having them put in their two weeks, waiting for their start date then getting to it, we can call our bench foots and see if they still want to work with us. They usually do and can start within 1-2 weeks at most. New hire answered the phone this morning, accepted the job, and starts training Monday. This has saved us many times.

@matt_barrie What’s the average cost of freight to value of freight? 1:10, 1:50? Eg a 40% increase at 1:10 may be a 4% increase to the consumer who’s buying? Is the risk actually cost increases or running out?

Only buy domestic and a rail car from Texas to New Jersey can take 3-6 weeks. I can’t imagine what the freight cost plus tariffs on getting resin from overseas…lead time no idea. I only make FDA film so have to buy specific resin for my pharma customers. Probably 20 pct of my day is spent sending regulatory information to my customers about PFAS and other random stuff so they can make sure they are adhering to food and pharma regulations - none of us want to risk being sued

Inflation is a double edged sword. Resin is literally up 50-60 percent year to date which is incredibly stressful, but the quote volume in the last week is up significantly as customers look to lock in inventory before prices really get out of control. If even 10 percent convert, this could be my best year ever since I acquired my plastic bag manufacturing business. Since I acquired in October 2022, I got punched in the face with interest rate increases while industry demand fell. Then tariffs literally murdered my apparel business (one customer that did almost half a million of revenues went to zero immediately). Then a chunky customer retired last year. This year my most important raw material input is up 50-60 pct while industry demand is anemic. I’m alive and cautiously optimistic things should be getting better going forward. Honestly this is the most fun I’ve ever had in my life. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. My favorite sports moments include seeing Liverpool down 3-0 in 2005 come back to win the Champions League against AC Milan, Mario Chalmers at Kansas hitting a tying 3 against Memphis en route to the 2008 championship, Liverpool coming back from a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona to advance to the Champions League final and winning against Tottenham, Kansas coming from 15 down against North Carolina to win the 2022 National Championship, and the 13 seconds it took for Mahomes to get in field goal range to beat the Bills in the NFL playoffs. Comeback stories are always my favorite. Fighting through adversity and surviving is a dopamine hit that is almost impossible to beat.

@TheSalonDon There is an exception in this case, you have to consider how the annuity is handled in terms of bankruptcy / stopping risk. If it only lasts 20 years because MrBeast folds or any other reason then goodbye annuity. Take the 5m, reinvest it, have peace of mind

Things like this break people’s brain because they don’t understand the math For life changing money (which it is for 99.9%) You are going to get 6% to 8% returns on a lump sum You have to invest some in bonds if you’re living off the money So any annuity over 8% you take Below 6% you lump sum In the middle it depends This is 12% annuity guaranteed So you take the $50k per month
MrBeast@MrBeast

If you won Beast Games would you rather take $5,000,000 upfront or $50,000 a month for life?

@mhp_guy So, unless they divided their prep spaces into two temperate controlled zones, she found it impossible to make the best of both at the same location. This is why Lune only does croissant pastry and nothing else. There’s a comparison here when it comes to these places.

@mhp_guy You’ll find this interesting. The founder of Lune, one of Australia’s best croissant bakeries, if not the best, found that great bakeries in France can either do bread really well OR pastries really well. It’s because of the doughs requiring different ambient temperatures. 1/2

Is it possible for a business to do not one, but two things really well? I think I found an exception. Top Golf failed at having quality food and McDonalds failed at serving healthy food. Dunkin' Donuts is better known for their coffee than their donuts, ironically. There's a small restaurant chain in Florida called Southern Grounds that is successfully tackling BOTH high quality food and high quality coffee at the same time. (I know, I know.) They have locally sourced food that's (almost) seed oil free, and high quality artisan coffee as well. A hipster millennial's dream... Most restaurant/coffee combos only excel at one. I interviewed the founder about how they do it and how they launched with no investors, and why they're transitioning to a franchise model. (Their restaurants net $200k - $500k per year.) We also talked about some interesting tangential business ideas in the space that no one is taking advantage of (yet). If you're interested in the food or the coffee biz, it's worth a watch or listen. Link below.

@signulll A great example of this is the party rental business. People move roles, or get promoted, or come into the industry on the client side. So there’s always clients who are booking for the first time. Tough for stickiness but great for consistent leads

one thing i personally always underestimated when building is how many new users enter a market all the time. new businesses spin up. new grads enter the workforce. new age cohorts come online or graduate to the next stage. we often obsess over converting existing users… like how do we get them to switch? but a good lever is also becoming the default for the ones who are just arriving on to the stage. they often have no loyalties, no baggage, & no real habits. they’re open for business.

@JaredDHardin Follow up until they say no. I’ve had clients reach out 2 years later for re quotes. I’ve also had past clients reach out to other companies for work they didn’t realise I did. A quarterly update is a great to showyour work as well. Not complex just 3 case studies with pics.

Yesterday, I followed up with every open quote I have inquiring about the job and introducing my new services. Out of ~15 quotes: - 4 prior looked at their quote, who previously hasn't - One person called me to schedule a job - One asked me to come visit their lot for a visual inspection prior to hiring me, which I'm assuming is because I'm offering more services now. Over half of the quotes I've sent out haven't even been viewed. I'm new to B2B, so it caught my off guard. This past weekend I automated following up on quotes with my CRM, so I won't have to do this again manually, which will be nice. I've learned it takes multiple follow-ups to get someone to give you their money.
