Very disappointed with Air India’s handling of our case. We requested to add a missing surname for an international flight from Delhi to SFO (ticket cost was significant and non-refundable), but Air India completely denied the request and advised us to cancel the ticket and book a new one instead. This is not a passenger change—only a missing surname correction. Has anyone faced a similar issue with name correction on Air India bookings? Any advice on how to resolve this situation would really help. @airindia @ixigo @DGCAIndia @MoCA_GoI @TataCompanies

Why does Air India make simple ticket corrections so difficult? If required, customers should be allowed to pay a correction fee or fare difference and update the booking rather than being redirected through a lengthy and frustrating process. Could you please help us with any of these options? @airindia @DGCAIndia @MoCA_GoI

Hi Komal, we are sorry to inform you that the requested name correction could not be approved as per the airline’s current policy and confirmation. In this case, the request involves adding a last name as per the passport, which is not considered a minor correction by the airline. As per the airline policy, only limited corrections such as minor typing errors, title changes, interchange of first name and surname, or removal of repeated names are permitted. Requests involving addition of surname, middle name, or change from nickname to full name are not covered under the permitted correction guidelines.

Booked an international ticket (Delhi → San Francisco via Ixigo. My father's name was mistakenly entered as "XY" instead of "XYZ." We shared his passport (name + number match booking) and requested a correction. Ixigo asked us to check with @airindia, Air India asked us to go back to Ixigo - this went on for 4 days. Finally, Air India told us to cancel and rebook! Why should we cancel an entire ticket for a minor name correction when the passenger is the same and documents are verified? If needed, why not charge a reasonable correction fee instead of forcing cancellation and rebooking? This feels like unnecessary harassment and extra cost for a simple mistake. Other airlines handle this easily,-why not @airindia? Looking for guidance on what we should do next. #AirIndia #CustomerService #TravelIssues #ixigo

Thank you for the prompt response. I have shared the booking details via direct message. However, I was unable to attach the passport photo as there was no option to upload an image in the chat. Could you please share a private message link (similar to the option provided by Ixigo in the comment below) where I can securely upload the passport copy, or let me know of any alternative way to share it for verification? Thank you for your assistance.
