@Nyamisa_Chela They stood with the people. Don’t confuse a few radicalised hoodlums who courted anarchy with the people. The people did not come out to the streets to loot, vandalise properties, disrupt lives etc.

It’s crazy that ODM aligned itself with the regime at a time when citizens were being killed for simply protesting. Instead of standing firmly with the people, they went on to reward some of their most questionable figures with CS appointments. Are they unable to stand by their decisions now?

@HonAdenDuale will anyone go to court to complain about absence of public participation or lawfare merchants only use the courts to challenge measures that put responsibility on citizens to build their country?

Politics is not a battlefield of absolutes but a stage of changing roles. Loyalty shifts, alliances evolve, and what seems certain today may dissolve tomorrow. Do not surrender your thinking to the crowd. Use your mind and see beyond the moment. Sawa?

@KibekuMathew One wonders what is wrong with u? Each country has its unique needs. Perhaps Ethiopia has other sources of revenue to fund its socio-economic agenda. Kenyans complain of poor roads but also don't want to pay fuel taxes meant to fix the roads?

@Voice_Roy @AmbokoJH silence from the #RejectEverything gang also proves that some Kenyans are architects of their own pain...they yearn for world-class development but reject measures to raise funds to fund such development/services. They want zero taxes but want 100% of their problems fixed!

62 minutes to pass a tax amendment proves Parliament is no longer a legislature; it is a rapid-response janitorial service for the Executive's roadside panics. But the true trap is the 'refunds.' KRA does not do refunds; they do endless audits. By backdating the 8%, the state created a legal black hole where they keep the extra money collected, while the business owner drowns in compliance chaos. The state engineered the mess, but the Hustler pays the invoice.

The Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill 2026 has navigated the legislative motions in the National Assembly in just about an hour & two minutes. The House has adopted the Committee's Report without amendments. What a week as far as administration of VAT on petroleum products goes. Operationally, the drama is just starting: · April has had VAT on petroleum product at 16.0%, at 13.0% & now at 8.0%. Filing on (or before the 20th) will be interesting, to say the least · Given the backdating of the 8.0% provision, the case for refunds will be a sticky one in this cycle
Julians Amboko@AmbokoJH

The Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill 2026 is here. It's 8.0% for 90 days effective April 15th, 2026

@lordvatts Fallacy galore. Taxes are too MEAGRE to fix all the problems in KE. Those who keep rejecting finance bills and other revenue-raising measures are passing death sentences on other Kenyans. Either you accept the truth of inadequate taxes or stick to illusion of taxes being stolen.

The situation at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Eldoret is not just bad. It’s deeply concerning. According to the Auditor-General (2024/2025), the hospital is understaffed by: - 393 specialized nurses - 6 general surgeons - 8 oncologists - 5 radiologists - 10 medical officers This is a national referral hospital that's always full. Let’s stop sugarcoating it. This means patients are entering a system that does not have the required number of professionals to treat them. And when things go wrong eg a patient dies while waiting on the queues or something happens due to the shortage, we’re told it’s “complications.” No. It’s a staffing crisis. Kenyans are paying taxes every day. But hospitals are operating without the people needed to save lives. Where is that money going? Because it’s clearly not fixing this.

NEW: President Trump says a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon will begin at 5pm ET. “I just had excellent conversations with the Highly Respected President Joseph Aoun, of Lebanon, and Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel. These two Leaders have agreed that in order to achieve PEACE between their Countries, they will formally begin a 10 Day CEASEFIRE at 5 P.M. EST. On Tuesday, the two Countries met for the first time in 34 years here in Washington, D.C., with our Great Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. I have directed Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Rubio, together with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dan Razin' Caine, to work with Israel and Lebanon to achieve a Lasting PEACE. It has been my Honor to solve 9 Wars across the World, and this will be my 10th, so let's, GET IT DONE! President DONALD J. TRUMP”

@GideonKimaiyo_ Insofar as a leading opposition politician was successfully prosecuted (guilty verdict) puts South Africa ahead of Kenya in terms of rule of law and justice. The problem in Kenya is exemplified bny @polo_kimanii,i.e., criminal politicos incite their tribes to become their shield!

Without G to G, Kenyans would now be in the situation that Zimbabweans are in...where one may want to buy fuel at even KES500/l but fuel is nowhere to be found. #RejectFuelPrices is a continuation of the #RejectEverything campaign waged by bad-faith activists on Kenyans!

Suffice it to say that it's an interesting time for tax administration & compliance in Kenya. No sooner had the Revenue Authority begun upgrades on both TIMS & eTIMS & updating of the HS codes for communication to integrators for software updates regarding the switch from 16.0% to 13.0% than they now have to adjust the same to 8.0%. Sigh! Given the constraints on Sec6(1) of the VAT Act on the extent to which the CS is empowered to vary the rate, I expect hurried motions within the National Assembly tomorrow to clean up this undertaking. Expect a Supplementary Order Paper.
Julians Amboko tweet mediaJulians Amboko tweet media
Julians Amboko@AmbokoJH

I am pretty sure the President meant 13.0% when he spoke about "reducing the VAT rate to 8.0% for the next 3 months" here. Sec6(1) of the VAT Act cannot even allow a reduction to 8.0% in the first place, the cap is a 25.0% variation by the CS & 8.0% would be way off that window.

Seems @WilliamsRuto has become TIRED of asking Kenyans to do the hard things coz most Kenyans just want things done like they've ALWAYS BEEN done. VAT on fuel UNLIKELY to go back to 16% coz WSR will be afraid to be accused of "overtaxing" Kenyans around election year. Kenyans!
