@barstoolsports The white privilege of hockey and how it's reported on and viewed by the public, versus NBA or NFL. NO discussion about these being thugs NO discussion about the impact of this violence on kids NO discussion about this league needs to clean up. White men fighting is OKAY

Betts was in no way defensible. I get not giving long term contracts of 10+ years and god knows the Red Sox are good examples of being terrible at picking the right player for that but they instead let the franchise go and then react to the uproar by over spending on a different player. i agree it’s not really accurate to portray them as penny pinchers but they try and be very selective and all too often they choose wrong. With that said it’s a new season and I am excited. But I’ll never forgive them for Betts, Orsillo, Tito and Cora (the first time). Just a cowardly front office.

The Red Sox are a horrible example for this point. They are top tier contenders in the AL this year with the highest payroll in franchise history. Infinite spending is not possible. Devers and Betts were not “sell a player and pocket the money” moves, they were defensible, arguably necessary moves made to allocate funds in a more balanced way. FSG prioritizes sustained contention over emotional overspending. That is how you win long-term without lighting money on fire. (I will admit mookie trade was horrible but I don’t think it really cements the thesis in any way here) Video comes across as either populist slop without a nuanced understanding of MLB roster building… or a wholly incorrect, idealistic conclusion wherein all teams should go all in every single year.

NEW: It's now more lucrative to have a losing sports team than a championship team. We examined the Boston Red Sox to see how private equity and cost cutting invaded sports. In this era, teams want to sell good players for profit more than they want to have a good season.

My wife was formerly promiscuous. I was a virgin. She was then radically born-again. Committed to church, evangelized constantly, Puritan books in her bedroom, prayer journals, grief over past sexual sin, etc. We got to know each other well for over a year, dated for four months, engaged for two and a half, and didn't sin sexually with one another. Our first kiss with each other was at the altar on our wedding day (reaction pic attached!). We've been married for over five years now, and she's been the most wonderful and godly wife, mother to our three children, and homemaker you could imagine. She's more pure than most virgins, as biblical purity has less to with past sins (though they certainly matter) and more to do with one's current posture of the heart and daily decisions to honor the Lord (Matt. 5:8). We're far too quick to forget the story of the woman labeled as a known "sinner" (likely a prostitute) in Luke 7:36-50 who was washing Jesus' feet with her tears while kissing them too. The Pharisees were shocked that Jesus let a public sinner do this. Jesus responded with a parable about debts being forgiven and ended with this powerful conclusion: "Her many sins have been forgiven; that’s why she loved much. But the one who is forgiven little, loves little" (Luke 7:47). Everyone seems to highlight the benefits of virginity, and it certainly is a blessing. But we forget to highlight the benefits of being forgiven much as well. My wife knows the depths of Jesus' forgiveness more than most people, enabling her to more easily live out a life of passionate love for her Savior. A woman or man's past sexual sin matters. But what matters far more when it comes to deciding who to marry is if the person is truly born again, if their repentance is real, if they truly have a heart for Christ, if they truly follow Jesus and obey his commands. "God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong. God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world — what is viewed as nothing — to bring to nothing what is viewed as something, so that no one may boast in his presence. It is from him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom from God for us — our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, — in order that, as it is written: 'Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.'" (1 Cor. 1:27-31) "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!" (2 Cor. 5:17)

If someone argues that a former promiscuous woman is "damaged goods" and questions whether a Christian young man should marry her, remember Rahab. She was a Canaanite prostitute but became a mother in the lineage of Jesus. God redeemed her, cleansed her, and Salmon married her.

Calling “trickle-down” a socialist straw man misses what was actually being argued. Thatcher and Reagan pushed deregulation, tax cuts at the top, and tighter public spending on the claim that freeing capital would lead to more investment, jobs, and higher wages. That’s a supply-side argument, not a left-wing one. The issue isn’t the label, it’s the mechanics. When government pulls back its spending, the private sector has to pick up the slack. Households and firms don’t suddenly invest more — they tighten up, pay down debt, and cut risk. Demand weakens, money circulates more slowly, and capital drifts into assets instead of wages. What part of this is socialism?

Starting to see in the #NHLBruins the heavy legs that feel rage. The pivotal calls these last two games have been so infuriating that composure stands uncomfortably close to resignation. The internal conflict is now a distraction, and the Olympic break is suddenly needed.

Jeff Bezos, who could keep the Wash Post a pillar of American democracy with the change dug out from his limousine seats, sets an example of surrender to authoritarianism for every other business person and institution in America.
Evan A. Feigenbaum@EvanFeigenbaum

The @WashPost has now laid off its Asia editor, its New Delhi bureau chief, its Sydney bureau chief, its Cairo bureau chief, the entire Middle East reporting team, China correspondents, Iran correspondents, Turkey correspondents, and many more. The world is becoming less America-centric by the minute while the United States is becoming more America-centric than ever. It is just a depressing yet somehow perfect summation of our current moment that one of the most important newspapers in the history of the country - one that has actually shaped the history of the United States - doesn't think reporting on the world is of any use anymore. What an utterly perfect encapsulation of where we have arrived.

If Jeff Bezos could afford to spend $75 million on the Melania movie & $500 million for a yacht to sail off to his $55 million wedding to give his wife a $5 million ring, please don't tell me he needed to fire one-third of the Washington Post staff. Democracy dies in oligarchy.
