You’ll see a lot of Islamophobes, like Maguire, now hastily trying to condemn this even, though they have contributed to this atmosphere of mainstreamed anti-Muslim hatred in this country. Maguire proudly backed Tommy Robinson and said Muslim culture was one of lies.

Three Muslims were just killed in a shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego after two teenaged shooters entered and opened fire.
While anti-Muslim/anti-Arab racism has been systematically fomented in this country for decades, the last two and a half years have seen every major institution - political, media, and educational - manufacture outrage about antisemitism in service of those who support the slaughter of Arabs and Muslims.
Every institution has pushed anti-Arab/anti-Muslim racism without pause because Muslim, Arab life has no currency here and is created to be expendable.

I woke up every morning and went to sleep every night thinking about what we could do to try to alleviate the suffering. I have also said that genocide, from my perspective, requires actually an intent to do the destruction — and not to fight a terrorist foe while conducting operations in a way that killed too many civilians. Should we or could we have done more? I ask myself that question every day. And the answer must be yes, of course, because too many people died and suffered. I think about what opportunity here or what chance there or what move there, and I play that back in my head.

It’s beyond serious dispute that civilian harm was not just an unfortunate consequence of Israel’s strategy in Gaza, it is part of that strategy. Alarms were sounded both internally and externally. Jake muted them. This performative handwringing is disingenuous and offensive.

Mehdi Hasan asked an Israeli lawyer if he was shocked by the NYT's piece on Israeli soldiers raping Palestinian detainees. His answer? 'Of course not.' Not because it's false. Because it's old news. Al Jazeera reported it in 2024. He testified about it in 2025. B'Tselem issued reports. Even Israel's own public defender wrote about the torture. Rape by dogs. Women shackled to metal tables for two days. Men raped three times-after being hospitalized. Children threatened with sexual abuse. Palestinians have been saying this for years. So what's new? Nothing. Except the New York Times finally published it.

One of the most striking indictments of US news media made in the Kristof piece, unintentionally, is that we are given an incredible example of how the word of Israelis is taken without any shred of evidence while Palestinians must provide every detail imaginable of the violence inflicted against them, and even then their suffering is treated, at best, as secondary if even acknowledged.
Also worth noting that Screams without Words was an official investigation by the New York Times and this report is in the opinion section.
