If people who are not supposed to be experts say something like this, that is fine. It is not their core area. But for people who are supposedly professional investors, this is an astonishing level of ignorance. I do not mean to pick on this gentleman as there are many more such folks. Point is to teach and to learn. India's PPP conversion rate is 20, quibbles aside. The multiplier to get to 96 is 4.8. Theoretically, if India and US had same incomes the multiplier would be around 1. The reduction of the multiplier as a country grows is called the Balassa Samuelson effect. Some call it the Penn effect. I would also like to acknowledge Jagdish Bhagwati's work in this context. Now, PPP conversion rate drifts upwards by relative inflation difference and some adjustments. While India is likely to bring down its 4% target inflation before 2047, let us say it remains 4% and US at 2% (though they have been exceeding it.) That takes 2047 PPP rate to 30 from 20. Now a 240 USDINR then would mean a 8x PPP/MER. Such a number is flat out impossible for an economy-pair like US-India, even less so that by 2047 India will have 35-40% of US incomes adjusted for cost of living and population (like say a Chile today) at only 5% faster growth (RLCU.) Currently India has 13-14% of US incomes. Now what is an ideal multiple for 35-40% of US income. It depends on global cycle, country scale, deficits etc. But broadly it should be in the 1.5-2.5x region. Which means the rupee should be in the 45-75 region as per this analysis. The midpoint is 60, which is 4 times stronger than the quoted analysis has suggested. So unless one believes that India will have double digit inflation, US low inflation, India low growth, US high growth and all four together - the quoted number is almost impossible to materialise. I understand this is boring, step-by-step analysis but this is the only way to understand this phenomenon. Hope it helps.

@Jasonphilip8 @sandhyaravishan PhD degree does not entail any scholar to be addressed as Doctor. Only a medical professional is addressed as one. In the case of Karunanidhi and several other politicians Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa) is awarded by various Universities. They certainly do not qualify as Dr.

I hear a lot of people saying Vijay is a new CM and he needs time to understand and learn. When Annadurai took oath in 1967, he was a brand new CM too. So were Karunanidhi, MGR and Jayalalithaa. Did anyone give them 6 months to learn? They hit the ground running. Because they had good advisors who understood governance. The current CM's advisors know zilch about politics, let alone about governance. I'm really worried for my state.

This lady is a South Indian Mu$lim woman From Kerala... Just recently, she visited a local Shiva temple... dressed in traditional South Indian Hindu attire. She lit a lamp... and folded her hands in prayer. She recorded a video of this and posted it on her social media account. Not a single Hindu raised any objection to her video... Nor did anyone tell her that she should conv€rt. However, members of her own community were deeply offended. She faced a barrage of severe abu$e and in$ults. Why is this, brothers? You are happy to toss the "Iftari bone" to politicians to gnaw on... and you try to impose your religion upon anyone and everyone you encounter... Yet, the moment a young woman visits a temple, you get a sudden "stomach ache" (get agitated). No one invited her... nor was there any expectation of an invitation. She simply felt like going, so she went. If you think you can stop her—go right ahead and try!

@thekaipullai Compare Ilayaraja with MSV and note the variety (and not with Anirudh). After hearing some 20 Ilayaraja songs continuously one can spot a pattern. The variety MSV has provided is unmatched.

I was listening to Illayaraja songs on my drive today and I realized a few things about Illayaraja and his music and why he probably is one of the greatest music directors of all time 1. The songs stay in your sub conscious memory even if you have listned to the song once, And if someone even mentions that song in passing, you remember the movie, the setting, the context, the tune everything, even if the movie had released before you were born. OTOH you don't remember any of the songs made by Anirudh and other latest music directors 2. You will never tire of Illayaraja's songs. You can listen to them on the loop, and they still sound as amazing as they did when you listened for the first time. You never get tired of them With today's song, as pulsating as they may be while you listen to them, you want to move on from them as quickly as possible. 3. Illayaraja ensured lyrics of a song got its due respect and position in the song. Which in turn inspired lyricists to give their best. They wrote songs with great depth and meaning, which were then elevated thru his music. Thereforr most Illayaraja songs made you think and introspect Today, lyrics are meant to be a background buzz, meant to be drowned by a cacophony of electronic noise and beats. So they lyricists have nowadays stopped trying. I mean what's the point of writing good lyrics, when all people care about are the beats. 4. Illayaraja never lost consistency. He was as good in 1976 as he was in 2016. He never lost his musical acumen and never sounded repetitive. Is there any music director who gave a diverse album like Hey Ram 24 years into his career? You already can't distinguish a Beast From a Vikram from a Jawaan of Ani in the 14th year of his career. Truly Illayaraja is a maestro who was probably sent by God to make music so that plebians like us got some peace and happiness.

I’m genuinely not trying to insult anyone here, but I find it so fascinating that monotheists describe polytheists as immoral for worshipping false, "man-made gods" when we are the ones who encoded reverence for the Divine in all its manifestations (the sun, the moon, the earth, the oceans, etc.) and they are the ones who follow the word of a human prophet who told them who the one true god is. Also, we don’t go around telling them their beliefs are false or sit around talking about it, either. We just do us.

I will just leave a single fact. NO single Congress state leader was around the PM at the time. Think about it. Think about ALL the rallies you have seen with Modiji or Rahul Gandhi. They are ALWAYS surrounded in their immediate vicinity by state leaders.

35 years since rajiv gandhi assassination. Does anybody beleive there was bigger ( realistic) conspiracy than the final conclusion of ltte did it? Just seems odd that a sri lanka based terror org would have so much capability to pull out such a thing on their own and what did...

@Girishvhp What's speaker's role in this law & order matter? He may advice Govt to look into the matter but recommending dropping of charges is direct intervention in function. Does the great home minister of Karnataka even know about it?

Based on the recommendation of Karnataka Assembly Speaker U. T. Khader, the Karnataka Cabinet has withdrawn 8 cases against Muslim mobs involved in riots, after claims were made that “innocent Muslims” had been falsely implicated. The charges in these cases include serious offences under the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act, the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, and IPC sections such as 143, 147, 353, 307, 504, 427, 120B and others. These are not minor allegations, but involve rioting, obstruction of public servants, conspiracy, attempt to murder, and destruction of public property. The mob had attacked the vehicles of the Deputy Commissioner and other government officials, yet the State is now attempting to portray the accused as “innocent.” Such politically motivated withdrawal of riot cases strikes at the very foundation of the rule of law. All such withdrawals will be challenged before the High Court. We will not allow the State to misuse its powers to protect rioters and appease vote-bank politics.
Girish Bharadwaj@Girishvhp

U. T. Khader must clarify whether he is serving as the Speaker holding a constitutional office for only Muslim community or for all the people of Karnataka. How can the Home Department be urged to withdraw cases by branding certain accused as “innocent” merely based on religion? Innocence or guilt must be determined by law and evidence, not by religious identity or any other label. The charges against these so-called accused include the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act, the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, and serious IPC sections such as 143, 147, 353, 307, 504, 427, 120B, among others. With such grave allegations on record, what compelled the Speaker to write such a letter?

Calcutta High Court rejects plea against Suvendu Adhikari’s order banning slaughter of bulls, bullocks, cows, calves and buffalos, even during Eid. Court says slaughter of cows not a part of Eid celebrations. Here’s what’s interesting. In one of the petitions, Trinamool Congress MLA Akhruzzaman had argued that the religious obligation of animal sacrifice cannot lawfully be performed on the upcoming Eid days as the State had failed to grant an exemption under Section 12 of the West Bengal Animal Slaughter Control Act in the notice issued on May 13. Section 12 of the Act empowers the State government to exempt, by general or special order and subject to conditions, the slaughter of any animal for religious purposes, the plea said. Imagine, for how many years did the witch and her nephew allowed the sacrifice of cows to appease Muslims.

@thekaipullai Whenever I land in Chennai airport or arrive at Central station, I don't have any warmth, optimism or positivity but only a fear about the "welcome treatment" I would be receiving from the Cabbies and Autos.

Any warmth, optimism and positivity that you have towards Chennai evaporates the moment you try catching a cab after stepping out of the airport Because unlike most cities where you get out, open an app, book a cab and go, in Chennai you have to Haul your luggage in the enervating heat to an overcrowded buggy stand. Then wait for an buggy which takes an eternity to arrive. Into which you are then stuffed like a sardine in a can and driven for 20 mins to a god forsaken "mall" Where you again have to compete with a batallion of tired and hungry travellers and their luggage to get onto an elevator Which will take you 3 floors up to a taxi stand where you hope there is cab available Which will then drive you down those very three floors to take you into the city I seriously cannot comprehend how the supposedly knowledgeable Chennai people messed up something as simple as an Airport cab pick up All of Chennai's aspirations to be a megapolis dies in that gap between the airport arrival and that cab pickup station

HR: We lost another senior employee today. CEO: What happened? HR: He resigned after receiving an external offer. CEO: That makes no sense. We could have matched it. HR: That is the issue. We were willing to pay a stranger 70% more for the same role, but would not give our existing employee even a 20% raise. CEO: External hiring is different. That is market pricing. HR: He noticed that too. CEO: We appreciated his loyalty. He had been here for years. HR: Yes. And during those years, he consistently exceeded expectations while being told to “wait for the next review cycle.” CEO: But budgets are complicated for internal employees. HR: Apparently not for external candidates. The new hire budget was approved in three days. His raise request sat for eight months. CEO: We had to stay competitive in the hiring market. HR: He was part of that same market. The only difference is that another company valued him before we did. CEO: So he left over salary? HR: Not just salary. He left because he realized loyalty was being rewarded less than leaving. CEO: That is unfortunate. HR: Yes. Companies will sometimes trust a candidate after a 45-minute interview more than an employee who already proved themselves for five years. CEO: So what are you saying? HR: If companies only recognize employee value after a resignation letter appears, then eventually employees will stop waiting to be appreciated internally. Sometimes the fastest way for an employee to get market value is to stop being your employee.
