@AndrewDBaird1 Yes, I would have to agree with your line of thinking on this. Had not considered that liver stores would likely deplete during winter/hay feeding before any meaningful amount is lost in muscle tissue.

It's a good point. And winter feeding might be 5-7 months. I think however it will be liver stores that tend to go down and the body will maintain retinol in the muscle by mobilising retinol from storage. In a lean animal like the bison the retinol will remain consistently low and cows will remain consistently slightly higher. The beta carotene levels might be more affected though by beta carotene content of feed. Retinol in muscle was not affected by the supplementation per this study. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26319310/

Retinol in grass-fed muscle meat. I think some of us have seen this study before but dismissed it because it seemed so high. Well, with asking Grok repeatedly about it I've managed to figure out there's a Table 2 where the tissue analysis results are and then there's mistakes in Table 1 with the very high amounts. Basically, grass-fed beef is 1.39 mcgs of retinol per gram. Which gives 139 mcgs per 100 grams. The study uses Egyptian daily meat intake of 85.7 grams so 119 mcgs per day. This then goes in Table 1 as 1.39 mgs so the error is obvious. I suspect the calculation required hasn't been performed. 1.39 mgs is well over RDA, almost double for women in USA. The feed was very high beta carotene green berseem clover or alfalfa. Ranging from 150-235 mgs/kg. It's ironic 139 mcgs for 100 grams is fairly close to 2 eggs (100 grams) at 150 mcgs. Those eating 500 grams of this meat might get fairly close to RDA for women at least. So depending on the feed of your grass fed beef I would suggest anticipating it's likely to be at least 70 mcgs of retinol per 100 grams. Buffalo might be a bit lower though in Table 2 at 1.21 mcgs per gram. It's unlikely Grant Genereux has been near zero when he was eating bison or now and before eating grass fed beef. Of course it's just one study but it's very likely there's some retinol and beta carotene in muscle meat of grass fed cattle. @AndrewDBaird1 Yes, but you also must consider that vitamin a content is lower when cattle are fed hay. Especially the longer the hay has been exposed to sunlight. I’ll see if I can dig up those papers.

I booked a 2 hr massage for my Mother's Day treat. I booked it at an Asian massage parlor because they're a bit more straightforward than the more upscale American parlors. I also booked it because I recently tweaked my shoulder, and it's hard to get no-nonsense cupping done in my area. The masseuse is a Chinese immigrant. The massage was $160, and the cupping was an additional $15. That brought the total to $175. The massage was great, so I calculated a 20% tip, which was $35. (Is 20% not good anymore? Please, someone let me know if so.) This lady straight up was like, "$35 for 2 hour? Normarry, people, they do $50." I don’t get massages a lot, so I assumed the polite position and thought maybe I was in the wrong. I said something like, "Oh, is that bad? I want to tip well." Obviously, I paid her the $50 because I was stunned and I am a woman, but that was the most 3rd-world situation I'd been through in a long time. This experience alone is enough for me to be a single-issue voter on immigration.
