@RUBraveEnough @WomenSurgeons @womenMDinanesth @WomenInCTAnes Awesome- what syringes are you carrying and what an inventive way to carry it.

So few people in healthcare actually know what a day in the life of an anesthesiologist is like. Honestly if there was ever a selfie that caught me at my job in one snap it’s this.

@MaxJordan_N @maiasz @RecoveryDoctor @StefanKertesz I sadly don’t and it was before my time but will keep looking- there was no OUD stigma because its use as an acute pain medication long predated its use for OUD.
English

@KyleHarrisonMD @maiasz @RecoveryDoctor @StefanKertesz Do u have any refs on the history here? I’ve looked but no luck. Specifically on how/why it fell out of favor as an analgesic beyond maybe the ceiling effect concerns & oud-related stigma
English

curious what you think of this @StefanKertesz medpagetoday.com/neurology/pain… seems likely to cause harm...
English

@maiasz @RecoveryDoctor @MaxJordan_N @StefanKertesz Buprenorphine started out at an IV opioid for acute pain in the UK- Fentanyl pushed it out in the 80’s and the rest is history

@NanouTheNomad Ryb GE, Cooper C. Outcomes of cocaine-positive trauma patients undergoing surgery on the first day after admission. J Trauma. 2008 Oct;65(4):809-12. doi: 10.1097/TA.0b013e318187803f. PMID: 18849795.
English

@NanouTheNomad Sadly not that I have found besides “expert opinion” cocaine was actually found to be protective in a trauma database review paper. Medicine changes slowly but once people move to a new mental model hopefully they won’t feel like they are causing harm-Omission vs commission.
English

@NanouTheNomad I view stimulant use as a risk factor for adverse events and plan for it but people often feel pressure to practice medicine that they have been taught and as others will view their care as upholding or deviating from the local standard of care.

Happy first day of 2023! Beautiful sunset and likely the last visible sunset for a while. #AtmosphericRiver #SanFrancisco

As one ponders if twitter will die or be irreversible damaged it is hard to not get angry that a billionaire wanted a shinny new toy and decided to take it from the rest of us. #Twittershutdown
English

@NanouTheNomad @MorganGodvin @JanWiderman @especially_APT @ZachWritesStuff @RecoveryDoctor It is time we start moving the conversation towards offering inpatient inductions for some patients. Admission for a few days for a life saving cancer treatment would not be questioned. We should apply the same principle for OUD -we should not considered it a luxury.

@BurgartBioethix Many years ago I once gave a kid 20 bucks knowing full well that I would never see any magazines but he was so gifted at the con it was like watching a master class- considered it a tip.
