This hits home. It’s tough, especially for me being that I moved across the country at 37 (44 now) and it’s tough to make friends as an adult. I find that I’m constantly having to be the one who initiates hanging out because I’m the “new guy”. But for my old friends, I always make it a habit to constantly keep in touch.

Men, tell me if I’m wrong. I was listening to a podcast and t they were talking about male friendships- and how as you get older, get married and have kids, the effort required to maintain those friendships becomes enormous. Unless you become a lunatic about protecting the time, the friendships slowly fade. Curious what you guys do to actually keep those friendships alive?

@KyleInserra It’s a great question. I find that the circle has grown smaller, thereby much easier to manage and keep up with.

@Dirtdog Could not agree more. On the franchise side - I think auditing a brands marketing effectiveness should be part of your due dilligence.

I am hopeful this week was a great learning lesson for the c suite of restaurants. Those that are jumping into the arena and trying new things for marketing are going to be the winners over the next few years. Bold, wild marketing is what is winning. Dare to be different.

In 2011, the co-founder of an app many of you use daily was interested in investing with us. So we set up a time to meet in Palo Alto. I told him about our strategy, my experience, and how we go about adding value. At the conclusion of the meeting he asked if there was a book he could read over the weekend that would teach him how to invest in strip malls. I told him there was not. He then proceeded to ask the investor who connected us why they even need me in the first place. Basically: “Can’t we just do what he’s doing ourselves?”
