Another quirk of the much loved Opening Round. After yesterday, Geelong plays just two games in the next 28 days. The likes of the Demons and the Kangaroos play five games in the same period of time, both with trips to Perth, and playing at Gather Round earlier than the Cats.

A ground announcer yelling make some noise (so you can hear them above the din) before the ball is thrown up after a break is one of the great innovations in the AFL. I wish they had it at suburban grounds back in the day. Very confusing in those days.

Did a presentation this week to some young reporters and was reminded of the behemoth the Matildas were during that incredible World Cup. Still really strong interest during the Asian Cup as well. I’d argue they’re comfortably the most cared about national team.

@Reynolds_R I’m also worried about Brad Close. Has always been my favourite player but I’ve felt his last couple of seasons he’s lacked … something. I don’t what it is. He’s never been fast or elusive … but he’s missing something and I can’t put my finger on it.
