The night after Trevor’s first episode, former correspondent (and then ‘Nightly Show’ host) @LarryWilmore pulled me to the side and gave me some serious game about the job. I’d been in New York City all of 2 weeks and was still living out of the same airport hotel I usually stayed at for shittier gigs.   There isn't a person you can name from ‘The Daily Show’ who at some point hasn’t stopped to help me or throw me an alley-oop in some shape or form the last 9 years, from Jon Stewart on down.   So to now be hosting a show and have Larry Wilmore on as a guest is just wild to me. Truly thankful, that he will be joining me for a new episode of @HIGNFYUS tonight on @CNN & @StreamOnMax.   Shoutout to the Howard Johnson at Newark Airport.

@naima These posters are gorgeous. We had every single one in our school (Uhuru Sasa, Brooklyn), and several at home. Our school had stacks of them and would hand them out. Between these, Golden Legacy comics, and my school, my childhood history lessons were superior.

And we went from there, to the Budweiser African Kings and Queens posters, to Coming to America (I'm kidding, but they are all related)

My dad came of age in NY during the early Black Egyptology movement (which is the basis for what we now call "hotepism") and got into it while he was at Howard, back when Black folks started calling Egypt "Kemet." And I have a cousin whose still very centered in it (but doesn't say "Grand rising" or espouse conspiracy theories bc he's an actual medical doctor). So I grew up seeing/hearing the "legitimate" stuff, to the point where my mom (also a Howard alum) asked me when "hotep" became derogatory and why.

@jahsounds Same. Our network identified that and the people who didn't wash their hands after using the bathroom. We didn't take no chances, that's why Suzy's whipped cream and grapes pie went back mostly full, but Raineesha's sweet potato pie was gone halfway thru the line.
