#SummitFire Morning Update for July 12
Location: Jesus Canyon Rd East and Avenue Z, Llano
Start Date: July 10, 2026
Acres Burned: 2,690
Containment: 15%
Personnel: 644
Damaged/Destroyed: 1 Damaged Residence / 1 Minor Structure Destroyed
Current Situation: Crews have made significant progress on the Summit Fire and forward progress has stopped. Hot and dry conditions combined with gusty winds persist across the fire area. The northern portion of the fire is difficult to access due to limited roads, and firefighters are dealing with difficult terrain in the southern portion of the fire. There is still potential for significant fire behavior and rapid growth. Firefighters continue to construct fire line and in some areas are mopping up hot spots.
Fire Weather: Significant wind shifts occurred to the northwest early afternoon and to the south later in the afternoon/early evening. The potential for rapid fire growth with erratic fire behavior remains high.
Another round of hot and dry conditions combined with gusty winds will bring elevated critical fire weather conditions to the fire region this afternoon and evening. With higher mixing heights today (up to 14,000 feet this afternoon), there will be an increased risk of large plume dominated fire behavior.
Tomorrow’s Outlook: The current state of the weather and vegetation hold the potential for significant fire behavior and rapid fire growth. Crews on the ground and in the air will remain vigilant in their efforts to mitigate and contain this fire.

Start Date: July 10, 2026
Acres Burned: 2,677
Containment: 0%

Current Situation: Overnight weather conditions created tactical opportunities allowing crews to create defensive positions to reduce the fire’s ability to spread.
Firefighters will continue to fight active fire sources while providing structure defense for residences in the affected areas.
Weather today continues to be hot and dry with temperatures approaching 100 degrees with relative humidity in the single digits and winds gusting up to 25 mph along ridge tops. The current state of the weather and vegetation create the potential for rapid fire growth and significant fire behavior.

"Squad Fifty-One, this is Rampart…”
The #LACoFD is saddened to hear that our dear friend, Randolph Mantooth passed away yesterday.
Best known for portraying FFPM Johnny Gage in the iconic 1970s television series #Emergency, his character was an integral part of #Squad51, helping to popularize the paramedic and EMS system across the U.S.
Randy was a great friend and supporter of our Department and Fire Museum. He will be truly missed but his memory and legacy will live on in our hearts and in our paramedic program.
RIP 5️⃣1️⃣🚒🚑💔🕊️
