The Poway synagogue shooting also happened here in San Diego County — just a few years ago. There are groups here who have been targeting BOTH communities (as well as that of the unharmed Hispanic landscaper they shot at — not to mention Black folks) since the 1970s. None of us can afford to forget this. THAT ALL MATTERS.

Misogynistic, image-obsessed, wannabe special forces failure riddled by insecurity who wanted to ban women from combat, blamed affirmative action for his professional failures, hated the Clintons, saw DEI as destroying the military, ranted about federal government… Pete Hegseth? Nah. Timothy McVeigh. [but also Pete Hegseth.]

FYI: the book Amazon now labels “offensive content” and refuses to sell is one of Stephen Miller’s favorite novels. Alongside other openly white supremacist sources (like VDare, to cite just one), The Camp of the Saints informs Miller’s approach to American immigration policy. Read that again, and sit with it.

🎶 Iran-linked accounts are circulating a new LEGO-style propaganda video portraying U.S. and Israeli leaders as corrupt elites tied to the “Epstein files,” part of a broader online campaign aimed at undermining support for the war. The animation depicts President Donald Trump as an “orange pig” controlled by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, depicting the entire war as a project to “make Israel Great Again.” The chorus repeats: “Your government is run by pedophiles. They ordered you to die for Israel.”

There’s something unspeakably creepy about all the right-wing accounts, whether official US government or merely ‘aligned,’ using the same Good Friday “it’s finished” imagery, coupled with the emphasis on “sacrifice for all humanity” — in conjunction with expected Iran War escalation. I’ve been unusually silent the past few weeks, not because I have no analysis to offer, but because I’m hesitant to disclose what will likely come off as conspiratorial or doomer. But given all the related news emerging, I might actually go there quite soon.

This American teenager gets it: “We don’t have money for universal healthcare or to make sure kids don’t go hungry in this country, but apparently we have $11.3 billion fucking dollars to burn in 7 days to start a war nobody ask for to bomb innocent school children, twice.”

I’ve taught entire Ph.D. seminars on this topic. Muslims — even white American born converts to Islam — are absolutely racialized as “non-white,” culturally alien, 5th column within / potential national security threats by much of the general US public, with (often bipartisan) help from bigoted, cynical politicians, and this draws upon and begins with centuries of war justification propaganda narratives deployed in militarized imperial encounters. When Tunisia banned hijab, that was oppression. When Iran mandated hijab, that was oppression. NEITHER is a feminist move that respects women’s freedom and agency. Chances are, most of you only know about Iran’s legal dress codes for women. And you need to take a hard look at why that is, and where your assumptions come from. Try listening to Muslim women at some point, FFS.

see also: 1) jokes are a thing I try sometimes but also 2) geopolitics, normalized (+bipartisan) islamophobia, and widespread public perception of (as well as elected officials) Muslims as a non-white and culturally alien 5th column within = these are intertwined issues that directly impact contemporary conflict abroad, dissent policing domestically, and moreover, build upon centuries of propaganda narratives constructed and wielded in explicitly racialized, militarized imperial pursuits that rely on “othering” as justification ETC

Quit. “Aryan” does not mean “white.” If you guys want to know the utterly BATSHIT trajectory of this mistaken belief, keep reading. It’s W I L D. Etymologically, “Aryan” derives from Old Persian and Sanksrit autonym terms (around 2000 BCE) for “noble;” “free”; “(fellow) group member / compatriot” — a self-applied CULTURAL (*not* racial) group identifier. Bullshit nonsense 19th century European philologists mistakenly decided Indo-European LINGUISTIC categories were synonymous with race because bullshit nonsense race “science” was a popular but bullshit nonsense thing then. Then 20th c Nazi idiots who couldn’t agree on shit like “are Slavs white? Only teutonics? what about other shades of less pastiness?” decided “let’s just use Aryan to mean who we say is white at the moment we decide to say who’s white for whatever reason” THEN even crazier fucking non-Third Reich Nazis like Nazi convert NOT SOUTH ASIAN OR IRANIAN Savitri Devi latched on to the “Aryan”-hey-“Iran” bullshit nonsense and decided to make up the crazy ass religion of “Esoteric Hitlerism” because she believed that HITLER WAS THE AVATAR / REINCARNATION OF VISHNU

I lived and traveled in Iran for months. In Tehran I lived with the family of a retired bank worker who saw me looking for housing. I roomed with his son for months, ate all my meals with them, and they never accepted any money. Once I was sick and throwing up and they all came into the bathroom and the dad stroked my head while I barfed and told me “Aybi nadare” (no shame, it’s ok). I traveled around most of the country by plane, train, bus, shared taxi, etc. Eventually I stopped booking hotels because I’d always meet people on the train, bus etc who’d insist I stay with them. The family of Iran/Iraq war vets from Yazd who took me to Taft for bbq in the mountains. The taxi driver from Rasht who made a bed for me on the floor of his tiny apartment because all the hotels were full. The only time a police officer talked to me was once to make sure I was ok. I never felt in any danger day or night. The land of Iran is as incredibly diverse as its people. There are mountainous rain forests and desert salt flats. I met among the most liberal and most conservative people there, and everything in between. Everyone was so kind it makes me cry with shame.
