What makes the #nakfa especially unique is the imagery displayed on its banknotes. On the front sides of the six currency notes, eighteen individuals are portrayed—thirteen of them #women. Potemkin Party: the political theatrics is increasingly bordering on absurdity! The same monotonous chorus; the same toxic and illicit quest for "sovereign" access to the sea packaged and re-packaged on every auspicious occasion. The hymn has to be recited - as a rule of thumb - by all senior PP officials, the Party Head, the top military brass, and even the nominal Head of State these days! Celebration of Renaissance Dam or Commemoration of Adwa Victory... each and every public event invoked and misconstrued to "legitimize" what is utterly unlawful. Raw irredentist and expansionist ambitions, which are fraught with grave consequences to regional peace and security, whitewashed and "sanitized" as "imperatives for development" while in effect they constitute seeds of unnecessary turmoil and conflict. Potemkin Party's illicit and delusional agenda is not what the Horn of Africa deserves or needs; this is indeed legal/international relations 101.

My visit to #Eritrea offered a meaningful moment of reflection on the layers of engagement that shape national progress, from observing developments in strategic towns like #Assab and the historic resilience of Nakfa, to witnessing community realities firsthand. Moving across these spaces underscored how policy, partnership, history, and lived experience intersect in tangible and often humbling ways...Such moments serve as a reminder that progress is not only measured in projects or plans, but in dialogue, perspective, and shared commitment to long-term national vision. My visit concluded with a thoughtful exchange with H.E. President Isaias Afwerki, a conversation that reinforced the importance of continuity, strategic alignment, and sustained engagement on national priorities. President Isaias Afwerki laid a wreath at Massawa’s Twalet Martyrs Cemetery in the morning hours today in commemoration of Eritrea’s best sons & daughters who paid the ultimate price in the epic Fenkil Operation for the liberation of Massawa.

President Isaias Afwerki met, at the Denden Guest House in the late afternoon hours today, Saudi delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Waleed Bin Abdulkarim al-Khereiji. President Isaias underlined the importance of further consolidating the historical bilateral ties of friendship and cooperation between Eritrea and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the cultivation of shared and aligned views and positions on vital regional and international issues. The two sides discussed, in greater depth, the role of the littoral States of the Red Sea in guaranteeing the peace and security of the region against the backdrop of fluid regional and international developments and trends. In this context, the two sides decided to expedite the concrete implementation of cooperation agreements in the political, economic, security, cultural and social sectors previously reached between Eritrea and Saudi Arabia.

These brave Eritrean fighters took part in Operation Fenkil (Feb 8–10, 1990), confronting the Derg in Massawa with limited weapons but unshakable determination. In one of the boldest operations of the liberation struggle, they struck by land and sea, using small wooden boats to challenge a heavily armed military force. During Operation Fenkil, thousands of Derg soldiers were killed, thousands more surrendered or were captured, and the regime’s military presence in Massawa was dismantled. Heavy tanks, artillery, and naval ships were destroyed or seized, proving that strategy, courage, and unity can overcome superior firepower. Today, the once deadly tanks stand silent as historical displays. Water now flows through the metal where bullets once rained down.
