A police officer is expected in court this week after allegedly helping suspects escape from holding cells in KwaMsane for R5000. The warrant officer was caught by the KZN SAPS Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit on Friday. He faces charges of aiding and abetting suspects, and defeating the ends of justice. According to the @SAPoliceService: "On 27 February 2024, three suspects escaped from police holding cells at KwaMsane police station after they had cut steel burglar bars and roof iron sheet. A month later, Sibusiso Gumede, one of those who had escaped, was rearrested at a roadblock in Vryheid. Police investigations revealed that Gumede and his two accomplices' escape was orchestrated by a Detective Warrant Officer who supplied them with a steel saw, allegedly after they paid him an amount of R5000. A warrant of arrest was issued by the court and the police officer was duly arrested." @eNCA

Sergeant Mandla Khuzwayo is being laid to rest this morning. A funeral service is currently underway in KwaMashu. Khuzwayo - a crime intelligence member - was shot and critically wounded during an ambush in April. He passed away almost a week ago. The police officer, who joined the SAPS in 2009, leaves behind his wife and two children. His colleague, Captain Louis Nel, died at the scene and was laid to rest earlier this month. @eNCA

Arrest warrants have been issued for six SANDF Special Forces soldiers who went on the run after a court revoked their bail. The soldiers were originally granted R10,000 bail by the Randburg Magistrate's Court- which was later revoked. KIDNAPPED, HIJACKED AND HELD FOR RANSOM — VICTIM ALLEGES SAPS FAILED TO ACT ON CRUCIAL LEADS A Gauteng man claims he was the victim of a violent kidnapping and hijacking syndicate and alleging that police have failed to act on key evidence more than a month after the incident. According to the victim, he was lured to a location in Johannesburg on 19 April 2026 after responding to what he believed was a legitimate vehicle trailer advertisement on Facebook Marketplace. Upon arrival, he says he was ambushed by armed suspects, hijacked and kidnapped. The victim alleges that while being held hostage under threats of death, he was forced to facilitate a ransom payment. A friend reportedly transferred R14,000 into a bank account allegedly controlled by the perpetrators. The suspects also allegedly stole his vehicle, two mobile phones and a watch. Despite the traumatic ordeal, the victim says he gathered valuable information that could assist investigators. He claims he supplied SAPS with details of an ehailing vehicle allegedly used by the kidnappers, including the registration number, vehicle description and booking time. He also provided bank account details linked to the ransom payment, IMEI numbers of the stolen phones, information relating to the Facebook Marketplace profile used to lure him, details of withdrawals from his bank account and contact information for an eyewitness who allegedly saw the attack unfold. The victim alleges that, despite the evidence, police have not obtained subpoenas for banking and ehailing records, tracked the stolen devices or taken a statement from the eyewitness. He says he has since escalated his concerns to the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner and the National Complaints Nodal Point. He believes an organised syndicate is using online platforms, banking services and ride-hailing applications to target unsuspecting victims and is calling for urgent intervention and accountability.
