A top official in Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows’ office has recommended invalidating a citizen initiative that would require public school athletic teams, bathrooms, locker rooms and showers to be designated by sex. The recommendation places the high-profile referendum in jeopardy just months before the November election. Yesterday Jack Turban and Dan Karasic spoke at the American Psychiatric Association's conference. They believed they could say whatever they wanted and you would not hear it. They were wrong. Drops tomorrow 5/18 on Informed Dissent.

At about the 50:00 mark, Turban repeats a common attack on the studies from Britain that found that a high percentage of pre-adolescents who claimed gender distress desisted and turned out to be gay. He says these studies were flawed because many of the kids did not meet the criteria for gender dysphoria. However, youth with gender distress today in the US are not receiving differential diagnoses of gender dysphoria. They are either going under the care of quacks like Johanna Olson-Kennedy, who believe in an informed consent/affirmation only model for kids without even the pretext of a diagnosis, or they are getting a pretext of a diagnosis from our terrible mental health professionals. There are now very few clinics using a formal diagnostic approach to treating kids with gender distress. The vast majority are "child led" and social transition starts at very early ages. So, there is no reason to assume that was true in those early studies is not true now.

Dan Karasic, exposed by @LGBCourage, testified in support of Children's Hospital Colorado's provision of puberty blockers and wrong-sex hormone to minors, swearing that he has "no question that gender affirming care is safe and effective." Karasic authored portions of both WPATH SOC 7 and 8. The case for which he testified, Boe v. Children's Hospital Colorado was used as supporting evidence in Oregon v. Kennedy, a suit filed by 20 states to protest @HHSResponse to exclude providers from Medicaid and Medicare for providing sex-rejecting medical interventions on minors. A federal judge appointed by Biden ruled in favor of the states on April 18.
