@OctopusEnergy We literally sat on the dark and turned nothing on other than fridge/freezer and internet and got nothing... Not sure what more we could have done?

Question for the smart energy hive mind 🧠🐝 If you've been part of one of our flexible energy 'turn down' projects before (ie. Agile, the Big Dirty Turn Down, Big Switch Off etc) – what did you do to reduce power?

@OctopusEnergy We trialled this but never hit the 'less' target. We literally sat with nothing on during the times and it still didn't help. I think don't think we use a lot, so a scheme like this won't help us as there's not much more we can do 😔

“Instead of cutting off whole chunks of the country if we are short of gas, we can reward people for using less energy at times of peak demand.” Get ready for Saving Sessions ⚡️💸 More details coming soon. reuters.com/business/energ…

Your regular reminder that you can switch “utilise” for “use” in just about every context, and nothing bad will happen to you, and content designers across the land will rejoice.

@RobertMills Thank you. I love what I do but when it comes to sharing I worry a lot about how we/I will be judged. But sometimes you just gotta put yourself out there lol! Thanks for your inspiring tweet!

So I saw a tweet from the fab @RobertMills about being brave about publishing our learnings... It's all a work in progress. So here's me putting myself out there with my go at another blog in time for #GAAD #accessibility #digitalstockport

On Global #Accessibility Awareness Day @LHadley80, our Design Team Lead, talks about the work we’ve been doing on the digital accessibility of our web content and online tools in the #DigitalStockport blog: orlo.uk/XhBXy #DigiKnow #GAAD #FixTheDigitalDivide @reciteme

I've started to explain content as 'stuff or gubbins'! Your PDF report is not your content. It's one way to present your 'stuff'. Webcontent is another and doesn't have to be worded the same, social media... another and so on. Present your 'stuff' for the medium and audience 🤣

Reading feedback from users that basically said the content was too long, too repetitive and too difficult. So a stakeholder reminder #ContentDesign isn’t a special secret. No one likes walls of text, complexity or to have their time wasted. Content design is about being human.

Over the years the most common designer complaint has always been "No one listens" and "UX isn't a priority/understood", so I want to throw something controversial out there: Some of this is our doing. A quick(ish) thread on why and how to fix it 🧵 #uxdesign #design #ux

@Alex_T_Smith my 9 year old loves Winston, Claude & Mr Penguin and after having to cancel our trip to go and see Father Christmas due the Covid levels round here, we've spent a very happy day baking all Winston's favourites ❤️

@Amy_Hupe We found using long pages for the right thing really successful 😊 Clear, well guided steps for people, good headings and the right thing in the right place on the page. Users follow and achieve their task

There's a pervasive fear amongst some designers and devs of long pages of content. They're often less of a problem for users than we imagine they will be - but we resort to tabs, accordions or details before we try out the simpler thing of The Big Long Page. Why is that?

Fellow Content Designers. if you could deal with these in priority order what's 1st? (I know ideally we'd do them all as we go): long complex sentences, jargon, complex technical terms, structure [headings, bullet points etc]. Asking for a friend 😉

@LHadley80 Structure first, then the rest feels easier. Otherwise you might be working in a sentence that ends up being cut 🙄

@tori_tweets Thanks Victoria, unfortunately at the mo it's a v large doc that's well under way so just trying to make small improvements where we can. Web content when it comes to it should be much better 😊

@LHadley80 I would identify and prioritise the user needs for that page, and then design the page around them. That will give you your essential content and structure, and language users understand should come out of the user research - which could be from complaints/website feedback
