Earlier this week we instrumented 3 clearing histories of a farm in Fairbanks: undisturbed spruce forest, forest regrowth 21 years post clearing and an abandoned field that was cultivated for 17 years and abandoned for 4 years.

@LM_Farquharson The site lies on a flattish plateau with limited snow cover in winter, negligible vegetation in summer, little in the way of an organic layer on the ground surface, and limited ground ice in the underlying sandstone bedrock.
