I firmly believe that living in the #UK is becoming unsustainable for many. It’s a bankrupt country. There are too-few people to haul the heavy locomotive and quite frankly I’m fed up of being one of those people. Something has got to change. #CouncilTax #Tax

The UK is considering an American style global tax regime. If you move to zero tax havens like Dubai, you will still be forced to pay British income tax for the privilege of holding a UK passport and getting embassy protection. The tax loopholes might finally close.

@treblahk @FurkanGozukara Renounce it then? getting all the benefits of being a UK citizen without contributing to the economy? You’re effectively letting others pay for you. Renounce your citizenship it’s fine

@ScottMcclement1 @jaseleace @FurkanGozukara I'm from Manchester, the brilliant bright blue skies here in HK significantly positively affect my mood. Summer time when it roasts you at 35C are slightly less fun.

I can't get over the fact that Dune is about an oppressed people fighting for their homeland, waging a jihad to bring down a hegemonic empire by threatening to cut off the flow of their most precious commodity after the empire had assassinated their religious leader's father.

@MasqueradeBalla @Karmabash You assume wrong, you don't remember when the USAF lost an F-35 in the USA and had to turn to social media to ask if anybody found it

There is a high probability that the F-35 that Iran claimed to have downed, indeed has crashed in Saudi Arabia and did not reach the base as reported earlier. There appears to be an active search party over eastern Al Jubayl region:

If people want to know why Gen X is always mad, it's because we had to replace our record collections with a tape collection and then replace that with a CD collection that we slowly replaced with an MP3 collection and now need a subscription to listen to music.

@CarlZha That's book 1, it gets really dark when you go to book 2+3 especially when the Fremen decide to FORCE Muadib religion on the universe. Plus Paul isn't the messiah, it's his son Leto II who is the messiah.

Every 1 million tonnes of lost urea production in the world in 2026 reduces grain production by 7-8 million tonnes. A sobering thought.

@Simon_Ingari Why in these scenarios is it always clear that Gen Z just doesn't get it. If they were supposed to seem sympathetic here, they don't. They sound entitled and unwilling to do anything. From all these posts it'll be the Gen Z's that aren't totally soft that end up running things.

Manager: I have you scheduled for a meeting at 7 PM tomorrow. Gen Z: Is my attendance mandatory? Manager: Yes, we’re working with a client in another time zone. Gen Z: Okay, I’m happy to shift my hours to accommodate. Manager: Excuse me, no—you still start at 8 AM. Gen Z: If I’m working in the evening, then I’ll start later in the day. Manager: Okay, don’t watch the clock at this company. We work when we need to work. Gen Z: I’m contracted and paid for 40 hours a week, so that is what I work. Manager: That’s a career-limiting move. Tomorrow is a busy day; I’ll need you to start right promptly at 8:00 AM. Gen Z: Alright then, I will take the lieu time later this week. Manager: Again, that’s not how we operate at this company. You work hard when you need to, and you don’t watch the clock. Gen Z: Again, I work for the hours I’m paid for, and since overtime is not an option, I’ll go ahead and adjust my hours this week to accommodate the shift in the schedule. Manager: You’re not quite understanding the company culture we have here—we work all the time. Gen Z: And you’re not understanding that just because that is the way you do things does not mean that is how I’m required to do things as well. Manager: (Silence)

@CBankingEditor To be fair though Uncle Milton visited China between 1980-1992. Nobody could have foreseen anything way back then. Even in the year 2000 nobody knew China's potential let alone 10 years before that.

When Milton Friedman visited China, he also argued that Shanghai's Pudong New District was a Potemkin Village designed to fool credulous foreigners. Pudong is now one of China's preeminent finance and tech hubs, with an annual GDP of more than one trillion yuan (USD$145 billion). Worth noting that Friedman made multiple visits to China after the Third Plenum of 1978 - a very clear sign of how open minded and pragmatic Deng Xiaoping's leadership had become by the early reform era.
Handre@Handre

>be Milton Friedman >visit China in 1980 >see thousands of workers digging canal with shovels >ask Chinese official: "Why not use bulldozers?" >official replies: "That would eliminate jobs" >Friedman: "Then why not use spoons?"

@ICE_AgentBender @Winter_Six Not at all. It was designed for a time that no longer exists because it took so long. It would be super dominant end of the 80s and 90s but today? With networked radars affordable IRST systems? It's essentially a bolt action in the world of self loading rifles.

@Winter_Six Or....... The F-35 program has been half a trillion dollar boondoggle since day 1. We should have went full steam ahead on the F-15EX program instead and built more F-22's.

WHAT I THINK HAPPENED: 1). Regular F-35 flight gets cancelled midair because the pilot noticed something wrong with his plane. Squawked on their emergency channel and flew to a friendly base.

Victor Gao mocks the self-arrogant westnoids, powerfully: 🔻The British said China is their adversary. Victor Gao: "We're even preparing to send astronauts to the moon; we have no time to compete with you." 🔻There's a small European country Lithuania keeps saying China is its adversary. Victor Gao: "Give it a rest! China's not its adversary at all. We're thinking about the universe and sea."
