@Idontcurog It makes a mockery of the game when some hokey award is given to a player when a team is losing, losing, losing. If the Sox can win games consistently then it's OK to have these kinds of fun ceremonies -- but not before. Winning games should be the only focus for losing ballclub.

@LPHAMEL Bro. Come on. They play 162 games. They are allowed to try n have fun. Obviously winning is what matters but if having something similar to trident spear like the mariners do or whatever other team do for the 10 seconds after a player walks back into dugout who cares.

The talking heads on the White Sox game on the U are chatting about the Sox having a "home-run celebration." How about letting the fans relish a winning ballclub before initiating some sort of hokey individual celebration? The "fun" should come from more W's in the standings.

@Idontcurog The most gruesomely painful moments of the Sox teams from a couple of years ago when when that hokey fedora and jacket were awarded to players that hit home runs on 100-loss team.

@Idontcurog It should be about winning ONLY until the team wins. Absolutely no reason exist to celebrate individual accomplishments in a team sport if they don't lead to WINS.

@Cockson68 @_Zeets Add to the reality that people can legally bet on it, too. The losing bet colors their judgment even more.

@_Zeets Elite professional sport has so much riding on success and winning most of the fun is taken away. Fans assume outcome is determined by effort and far too many live their life vicariously through “their” club or team.

Problem is that a lot of people don’t enjoy sports or the athletes. They’re watching to start or win arguments against a bunch of other losers. That’s why everything has to be extreme. Everyone’s overrated. They can’t even discuss players they like without putting another down.

@NickPalazzolo5 Is it such a big deal when these "minutes retained" resulted in DePaul having an 8-12 record in the Big East? DePaul made progress from the brutally awful teams we had seen for a few years, but the Blue Demons were far from good.

Worth noting, that DePaul was 2nd in the Big East in terms of minutes retained from last year only behind UConn and only returned 5 players from 2024-25. In this modern era, minutes retained is more of the retention than numbers.
Nick Palazzolo@NickPalazzolo5

Lorenz will be the first of likely a handful or so of players who will portal for DePaul. DePaul loses 4 seniors, all of whom were key contributors. So another offseason where we see probably half the roster turnover entering year three under Holtmann and Co.

@AndrewDBailey Younger folks don't care because relaxed rules have become standard and it makes the game far easier to play. But we Baby Boomers were taught to play under more-stringent rules and have difficulty with this. I, for one, have zero interest in the NBA. I used to be a huge fan.

The “gather step” is really out of control in the NBA. “Floating” the ball in your hand should not give you liberty to five-step into a pull-up jumper. Bring old-school traveling back.

In a vivid example of just how competitive NCAA beach volleyball is, the Pavelkova twins from Czechia will play in the gold-medal match of the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour on Sunday in the Tlaxcala Challenge. Katerina and Anna are 20-year-old freshman for fourth-ranked Texas.

@jonacoles @arhooptalk Wilt Chamberlain, at best, was a good amateur beach-volleyball player. He was not competitive with the top players of the day. NBA contemporary Keith Erickson won top-tier beach tournaments and was a member of the 1964 USA Olympic team in indoor volleyball.

Larry Brown recounts a pickup game at UCLA where a 43 yr old Wilt & 4 of his freshmen play Magic, Worthy, Scott, AC Green and Bernard King. Matt Winer added that someone who played in those 80’s games told him that the best player he ever played with or against was 50 yr old Wilt

This CBS studio show is absolutely embarrassing. Zero concern for the audience. An inconsequential NFL player, a really inconsequential WNBA player, an all-time great NBA player who doesn't follow college basketball, and Clark Kellogg. Wow. The agenda is just too much.

@osmattmurschel It's an impossible task for program such as UCF to make real progress when the roster turns over every year. Rented players have minimal investment in the school, the program or their teammates. When the going gets tough, these mercenary players are apt to take the easy way out.

#UCF junior forward Jordan Burks was asked about if he’s had thoughts about returning next season: “I'm just thinking about the loss and that we didn't capitalize. So I'm really thinking about that right now.” Said when the time is right he’ll discuss with his mom and his manager.

@IainMacBets Athletes are skillful across the board, but team sports require continuity for teams to truly reach their potential and the faces are constantly changing. Tougher to be a fan when you have learn a new set of players every year.

@LukeSarrisUCF A 20-win season and an NCAA bid doesn't seem to be much provocation for a coaching change at UCF. The main concern should be that Johnny Dawkins used the portal to build a roster and he has to again next season. No program continuity.

17 turnovers and only made 5 of 16 free throws in the biggest game of the year. The team failed in some of the most important areas tonight and that’s why we’re going home. It was a solid season and nice to make the tournament but it ended with a lot of the same old stuff we’ve seen year after year.
