@iam_elias1 There are a lot of assumptions here. One major assumption is that every firing generates positive ROI for the company. Because of energy DEMANDS, token costs will skyrocket. So you quickly get to a point where every AI replacement needs to deliver transformative results
English

Two economists just published a mathematical proof that AI will destroy the economy.
Not might. Not could. Will — if nothing changes.
The paper is called "The AI Layoff Trap." Published March 2, 2026. Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Boston University. Peer reviewed. Mathematically modeled.
The conclusion is one sentence.
"At the limit, firms automate their way to boundless productivity and zero demand."
An economy that produces everything. And sells it to nobody.
Here is how you get there.
A company fires 500 workers and replaces them with AI. A competitor fires 700 to keep up. Another fires 1,000. Every company is behaving rationally. Every company is following the incentives correctly. And every company is building a trap for itself.
Because the workers who were fired were also customers.
When they lose their jobs faster than the economy can absorb them, they stop spending. Consumer demand falls. Companies respond by cutting costs — which means automating more workers — which means less spending — which means more falling demand — which means more automation.
The loop has no natural exit.
The researchers tested every proposed solution. Universal basic income. Capital income taxes. Worker equity participation. Upskilling programs. Corporate coordination agreements.
Every single one failed in the model.
The only intervention that worked: a Pigouvian automation tax — a per-task levy charged every time a company replaces a human with AI, forcing them to price in the demand they are destroying before they pull the trigger.
No government has implemented this. No major economy is seriously discussing it.
Meanwhile the numbers are already tracking the curve. 100,000 tech workers laid off in 2025. 92,000 more in the first months of 2026. Jack Dorsey fired half of Block's workforce and said publicly: "Within the next year, the majority of companies will reach the same conclusion."
Nobody is doing anything wrong. Companies are following their incentives perfectly. That is exactly the problem.
Rational behavior. At scale. Simultaneously. With no mechanism to stop it.
Two economists built the math. The math leads to one place.

@WatchMyReview It's sad we're going to waste this opportunity to have Mats on board. His contribution won't be enough to overcome the many issues with the org, players and a GM like Chayka. Burn it to the ground, start over - the sooner the better. Rearranging the deck chairs just won't help.
English

@MapleLeaves34 Would be happy to have Mats on board. Establish the vision. But yeah, Chayka? Dunno. Maybe this accelerates the 'burn it to the ground and start over' strategy, which might be inevitable anyway.

@TheBushArchive Wow, you must be seeing what Trump is doing and be ready to throw chairs by comparison.
English

@JacobPacheco6 27 years old and hasn't emotionally or mentally matured. He's a watered-down version of Kyrgios; a little less talent and a little more focus. But not much.
As long as his body cooperates, he'll have flashes of brilliance to keep him top 40-50. But day in day out he's vulnerable.
English

@brianlilley Similarly anything Trump says publicly is BS. He's a media personality and little more, using the medium for his only negotiating tactic; manufacturing grievances in an attempt to gain leverage. Boring. The actual negotiations will be a completely separate exercise.
English

An "entry fee" to start trade talks?
CBC is lying to you.
Let's have a real discussion on cross border trade talks, but you won't get it from most of our national media.

@grandslamcurl That's too bad. He's young and his team is still up and coming. I could see them challenging for a world medal with more experience.

Career update:
After winning the European Championships in 2024 and representing his country at the Winter Olympics this past year, German skip Marc Muskatewitz has stepped away from the four-player game.
However, he's not going too far: we'll still see him in Rock League for Alpine Curling Club next year!

English

@Stephjd420 It's Trump's only setting. USMCA is up for renewal so Trump has to start the grievance politics smear campaign in an attempt to gain leverage. He can win the media fight since...he's a media personality. Carney will outwit him in negotiations behind the scenes. Will take time.

The level of bullshit coming from this Administration about Canada is frightening. I guess he forgot about Canada giving them cheap oil and our Electric Dams powering 7 States at a reduced price. We already know he doesn’t understand how tariffs work, trust me, he has no clue how Canada works.

English

@johnpaulpaumbo @atrupar Ya so let's do a wholesale attack on a country bc we have a dispute about the mechanics of one sector of a broad agreement. Right. Usmca is up for renewal. Air your grievances and renegotiate. Nope. Go full drama queen and cancel your ally. 👍
English

@RonFilipkowski His inner circle had options expiring. He needed to move the market . Let's understand the real game that's being played here
English

@MehekCooke Yes by all means let's praise this child who just cleaned up the dirty diaper that he just spent the last 2 weeks pooping in
English

@BenBankas And y'all would shrug your shoulders and say them's the rules
English

@Road_Guy_Colin The opponents of the Flames and Rangers are just too difficult to get three points . Plus I have a sneaking suspicion that the Stars will take the night off given their playoff positioning is locked and hand the Leafs a win.
English

@iliasblueeyes More than likely. He has become shockingly consistent. If training goes well and he avoids injury we could see him on the GP with two more quads next year.
English

@davidalter I just don't see the Rangers getting three points against the Lightning and the Panthers . Ditto with Flames playing the Avalanche and the Kings
English

The scenario is thus. Any combination of the Flames and Rangers picking up 3 or more points each than the Leafs over each respective club's final 2 games, would see the Leafs move to 3rd-worst and 100 percent guarantee they keep their 2026 first-rounder. This is due to the tiebreakers
May the best tank win. 🫡

@GadflyofBedlam @davidalter Restock the cupboards and get the players developing as soon as you can.
English

@davidalter Leaf fans are stupider that I thought. The 2027 draft is the deeper draft. Take this pick now and lose that pick next year. They are going to suck just as bad next year. Am I missing something?
English

@Prerotatedfloop I'm okay with assigning her to the world team now.
English

@LeighCl68689106 @bruce_arthur @hollyanndoan Presumptive to say they voted specifically for PP. I have voted many times based on the profile of my local representation and been at best agnostic about who the PM ends up being.
English

8.8 million Canadians voted for Pierre to be the next Prime Minister of Canada. These candidates won their ridings because of Pierre’s agenda and messages to the population. The free will of the people is being ignored by the candidates crossing the floor. They have every right to change their mind and their political views. They must resign their position and run as a liberal they cannot change the vote of the Canadian public without the consent of the Canadians who voted for them. This is millions of liberal money backing these Floor crossers because Pierre’s message to Canadians is independence freedom and accountability. The liberals want Canada to become part of the WEF and the European Union to be destroyed and pillaged like they’ve done in Europe. Canadians have a right to stand up against these betrayals
