I disagree with this strategy.
At this moment, this is not the “forever war” some claim it to be. It could become that, but it isn’t right now.
If everything you say about this conflict is true, wouldn’t it be better to stay and guide strategy as much as you can?
There may be a time to resign, but now isn’t that time.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

If you can't do a job because of personal tragedy, you shouldn't take that job in the first place. Tragedy & sacrifice are not get-out-of-responsibility cards. That his wife was killed by ISIS is not relevant to his ability to do the job. If it is, he should've been out long ago.

For people calling Joe names, I want you to take a beat and remember that his wife was killed in the Middle East. He’s entitled to feel strongly about wars in the Middle East, even if you or I disagree. His sacrifice and service as a soldier is owed that respect even if you don’t agree and it’s honorable that he’s stepping down if he knows that he can’t faithfully discharge his duties in a conflict he doesn’t support. I myself have some trepidation about a longterm war but I believe Trump’s record gives him some latitude to handle Iran in a reasonable timeframe. My final point though, is that we can’t demand blind obedience and agreement. That’s not how you build coalitions. I wish Joe nothing but the best as he’s given his best years and sacrificed his greatest love for our nation.
