I love Alberta. I grew up here. Built my life here. Watched my siblings raise their children here. My family built businesses here. My parents taught at the University of Alberta and helped shape generations of students. My grandfather was awarded the Order of Canada for his contributions to this province and played a role in keeping the Edmonton Oilersfrom leaving Edmonton. I am as Albertan as they come. But I am every bit as proud to be Canadian. So when I see people trying to convince Albertans that our future lies in separation, I reject it completely. Alberta’s strength has never come from walking away. It has come from building, contributing, fighting to be heard, and helping shape this country into something better. I will spend every ounce of energy I have defending federalism, defending Canada, and keeping this beautiful province exactly where it belongs: in Canada.

Let's not diminish the meaning of rape by calling all sexually inappropriate acts of men "rape". It infantilizes women.

I appreciate this post because it is honest and passionate, and its clear your Alberta roots run deep. With respect, what makes you proud to be Canadian? I'm trying. I really am. But the feeling I feel most when I think of being Canadian is shame. I feel hopeless. The prospect of Alberta Independence is the most hopeful I have felt about the future in a long time. Do your siblings with kids feel as prideful in Canada as you do? Sincere question, hoping for a sincere answer. Because anyone I know with kids who looks at the direction out country is going feels hopeless for their kids' future.

Likely goes back to childhood. A lot of our adult fetishes come from childhood. Our little brains normalized horrific shit that happened to us, and stored it as "I enjoy this" when really, it was horrible. But we had no control over what happened to us as kids so it was best to just deal with it by saying we liked it, and over time, the "dealing with it" became either a habit or fetish. People have really no idea how much actually comes from our childhoods.

Why would they be responsible for something they aren't equipped to do? Reading to children doesn't teach them all to read.

Which by that point it had become a problem that affects me every day. I'm not hurting kids but I'm certainly hurting myself. I wish I had known it was abnormal and harmful sooner

I’m doing OK. The stock market is higher than when Biden was in the administration.. I realize the gas is high right now, but it was also high back in 2022 over dollars a gallon with Biden I am so glad that we are so much safer now we no longer have open Borders! The prior president allowed in over 20 million illegals. God only knows who’s here right now. Poor President Trump has a clean up his mess.
