My reaction to the latest #COP28 draft Global Stocktake text: The text is a monument of schizophrenia: It first acknowledges, recognises, or notes the numerous and gigantic gaps between what is needed and what has been delivered up to now. Those gaps are in every sector: emission reductions, adaptation, climate finance from developed countries, capacity building, greening of the energy system… And then, after such a clear diagnosis, it decides almost NOTHING. It is striking that this draft « decision text » contains 115 occurrences of the verbs « acknowledge », « recognise », and «note », while the verb « decide » is used only five times, and in relation to minor issues. There seems to be a total disconnect between the diagnosis and the treatment. The diagnosis is that of a potentially deadly cancer, due to abuse of fossil fuels. The prescribed treatment is a mixture of wishful thinking and magic. To say that governments are called to take actions that « could include », « inter alia » « reducing both consumption and production of fossil fuels so as to achieve net zero (…) around 2050 in keeping with the science » amounts to actually neglecting the science that says that anything short of phasing out fossil fuels almost completely by 2050 will not allow respecting the 1.5°C target with a serious probability. @LWittebolle @KennethVermeul3 @LodeCossaer Het verschil zit hem in het woord “vrijwillig”. De opportuniteitskost van vrijwilligers ligt per definitie lager.

Ik denk dat het debat over statiegeld zo moeilijk is, omdat de voorstander het moeilijk hebben met dit simpel geld: Statiegeld maakt het leven voor de grote meerderheid die nu *niets* (weinig) verkeerd doen (braaf recycleren, blauwe zak, geen zwerfvuil creëren) lastiger. 1/2

@GeertNoels Je hebt ook een efficiëntere overheid als deze meer output/outcome genereert voor een zelfde input. Noden genoeg. Mogelijk is dat een meer constructieve/aanvaardbare optie :-)

Op zeker moment zijn zoveel mensen afhankelijk van subsidies, werk en inkomen van de overheid dat politici beseffen dat pleiten voor een efficiëntere overheid stemmenverlies betekent. België heeft dat punt al een tijdje bereikt.

@PietCoopman @wduyck @GeertNoels Terzijde die 160 MEUR is status quo kost: de beleidskost voor het realiseren v/d huidige straatbeeldkwaliteit.... waar onvrede over bestaat. Een hogere straatbeeldkwaliteit vergt veelvoud van dat bedrag (kost v. hogere opruimfrequentie bij gelijke vervuilingssnelheid).

Elke wandeling is een pleidooi om #statiegeld in te voeren, zeker omdat de resultaten in Nederland overduidelijk zijn. Wat houdt ons tegen om de natuur proper te houden met een simpele maatregel?

@ManuelSintubin @demorgen Als ermee bedoeld wordt dat de uitstoot waarvoor de Belgische overheden verantwoordelijk zijn niet stijgt (en er dus geen impact is op de Belgische emissieruimte), is de uitspraak correct aangezien de gascentrales onder EU ETS vallen. Zag u het anders? #justwondering

Het staat er dus echt ... zwart op wit "De gascentrales gaan de Belgische uitstoot níét verhogen" en dat is dé waarheid, amen! @demorgen

@tijd Impactvol, effectief en efficiënt beleid vergt dat we publieke middelen bij prioriteit inzetten voor (financierings)oplossingen die onze medeburgers die niet of moeilijk KUNNEN renoveren, helpen dit toch mogelijk te maken.

@tijd Wederom uitstekend bijdrage! Sluit aan bij conclusies #FALCOslotevent. De onvermijdelijke beleidsshift van vrijwilligheid (overtuigen met subsidies/voordelen) naar verplichting (moeten renoveren) richt de schijnwerper op de olifant in de kamer: niet iedereen kan dit financieren.
