This latest news is absolutely huge, but is it exactly what we want? PJ’s trilogy is what introduced me to Tolkien and I’ll forever view him as the "Film Godfather" of Middle-earth. Those movies are masterpieces. But with The Hobbit and War of the Rohirrim in hindsight, and being 25 years out from the OG success, is this braintrust still the right team for something as momentous as The Silmarillion? Some of these stories are so high-fantasy that they might not even fit the "historically real" feel of the PJ's original trilogy canon. Do we need a completely new vision, or is Jackson the only one we can trust? Who else would you even want to see take the mantle?
