One thing everyone will have to get used to is that while Black Americans are most definitely a manifestation of our ancestors, we've also learned from where our ancestors went wrong. My biggest fear is that we really are “not our ancestors” That we will sit here and lose our voting rights and no one will actually do anything. As too many of yall think being performative on social media is activism. If voting didn’t matter they wouldn’t want to take it

Where did all the racists from those 1960s photos go? I’ve got living relatives older than Ruby Bridges. We act like the people in those photos just magically stopped being racist. No — they stopped sending their kids to public schools. A lot of private schools in America were created right after segregation ended. Those same people raised children who went to those schools, grew up, and kept passing down those beliefs. They just learned not to say certain words in public. But the current climate proves there are still millions of people in this country focused on advancing their rights while diminishing ours — just like then. People call me radical. But nothing I’ve supported has been radical. Some folks have just been more comfortable — comfortable enough to ignore America’s realities. That comfort’s wearing off every day under this administration and in governors’ offices across the nation. The sooner more of us accept reality, the sooner we can build a new one — one that’s just, equitable, and profitable for all people. Always good to be with @urbanleaguela.
