At what point do Canadians finally understand that picking a fight with one of the biggest economies in the world, our dominant trade partner, and our neighbour over petty reason was a bad idea? We are going to suffer and continue to suffer until we grow up and start to negotiate in good faith 🤦

He wants to bring CAN jobs to the US & get access to our resources at a discount, or even better in his book, just annex the territory & plunder them.

@kboon @FoodProfessor Trump's not moving goalposts—he's enforcing the exact tariffs, borders & fair trade he campaigned on for years. That's called leverage, not flip-flopping. Mexico gets it & wins deals. Canada doesn't. Get a better negotiator.

When you have a negotiating partner (the USA) who constantly moves the goalposts, then any negotiation really does not work. The world is getting to know this and Mexico being close to a deal means nothing, that's a negotiating tactic of playing one country off to another. I think it's in Trump's book. I'm open to hearing what you would suggest we could do otherwise.

True that. Let’s just ignore the abuse, criticisms, insults and threats from the malignant narcissist, particularly the one about making us the 51st State with plans to economically bankrupt us to try and force that outcome. The simple fact is Trump is an arrogant, ignorant and unhinged incompetent bully that lives to create chaos and divisiveness so that he can drive a win / lose result. He does not negotiate in good faith and time and time again reaffirmed his commitments and word are absolutely meaningless. His techniques might work in real estate but as we have seen less successful in the complex world of geopolitics and his unnecessary and ill conceived Iran ‘excursion’ that precipitated a global economic crisis, with no end in sight, is a perfect example of his disastrous failings. With this background there really is no obvious solution to dealing with someone who is essentially a living, breathing self serving lunatic. It’s easy to criticize the efforts of Carney but no one really has a viable option to force Trump to accept a win / win deal. And that’s the issue and the problem. Until that happens, the unhelpful negative comments and criticisms will undoubtedly continue.
