@LouthTownFC What an absolute shit show. The football is shit to watch this year. What’s keeping this clueless idiot in charge going to change? You suddenly found a pot of gold that fat Robbie has been sat on or something? Absolute farce.

@LouthTownFCRes Louth got what they deserve. Shockingly cowardly team selection by not starting the younger lads. That crab in the middle of the pitch couldn’t pass the ball forward to save his life.

@Real1_balogun Easy to give youngsters minutes when you’re PSG and Bayern and you face the standard of opposition that they do on a weekly basis.

Bayern, PSG and Barcelona must be the biggest teams who give youngsters a lot of opportunities. Lille have built a market on it. Those brothers in England have their academies for business. You'll have to be insanely good to break through. Do you know what's interesting? They'll go to those leagues in two or three years to buy those youngsters. Their own? They'll go to League 2.

#NUFC U15 have won the U15 PL International Tournament 🎉 They only conceded 1 goal in 5 games and it was an OG, an incredibly impressive feat. Fair to say our U15s are the best in the country right now.

Liam Rosenior got the Chelsea job 6 days before Carrick got the Utd job, he is about to lose his 6th game since then despite having the biggest squad in the league. Maybe I’ve missed it but are pundits asked every week if he’s the right man for the job?

There’s been a lot of noise over the last few days since Chris Atherton’s switch from Northern Ireland to Ireland became public. Plenty of opinions - that’s fine. But what’s not fine is the misinformation and outright lies being thrown around. One of the biggest claims doing the rounds is that it’s a “disgrace” he attended the JD Academy, cost the IFA thousands, and then switched. The truth? Chris Atherton never attended the JD Academy. He was offered the opportunity and turned it down. What people also conveniently forget is that Chris was involved in the FAI system before he was ever capped by Northern Ireland. At Under-14 level, he attended the FAI National Academy in Dublin. He loved it. Loved the environment. Loved the coaching. Loved the set-up. He was in Ireland’s pathway first. The reason he didn’t continue at that stage came down to logistics. He was heavily involved with Glenavon’s first team at a very young age, and the travel simply didn’t make sense. After conversations, including persuasion from Andy Waterworth at Glenavon - he gave Northern Ireland a chance. And to be fair, he embraced it. He represented them at Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 level and gave everything while he was there. But the idea that Ireland came out of nowhere simply isn’t true. It was always in the background. The fact he had already been in the FAI system, and the fact he turned down the JD Academy opportunity, shows exactly where his thinking was at. On the Chelsea situation - context matters here too. Chris agreed to sign for Chelsea 18 months before he officially joined. The Head of Academy at the time was Jim Fraser, a long-standing figure at the club and the structure presented to him was very different to what exists now. Neil Bath, another hugely influential figure in the academy set-up, also left during the overhaul. Since then, Chelsea’s academy has undergone a major restructure. The ownership change brought in a new model, heavily influenced by Kinetic Academy, with different personnel, different recruitment priorities and a different direction. When new leadership comes in, they naturally bring in their own coaches and their own players. That inevitably leaves players who signed under the previous regime in a more uncertain position. Chris hasn’t received the Under-18 minutes many feel he deserved this season but context explains a lot of that. It hasn’t just affected him. A number of players brought in under the previous academy structure have found themselves in similar situations. The key point? He remains very highly rated. In England. In Ireland. And beyond. This summer will likely be an important one. Chelsea can outline a clear pathway and long-term plan or if not, there will be no shortage of strong academies ready to move. Strip away the politics and the online drama and you’re left with this: A young player that just wants to play for his country.
