"The Manufactured Language" Standardizing a national language was done by literally every modern European state in the 19th century. France imposed standard French over regional tongues like Breton or Occitan. Italy did the same. Greek intellectuals created Katharevousa (a formalized Greek) for state documents, while the general population continued speaking Demotic (the natural, continuous evolution of ancient/medieval Greek). Standardizing state education doesn't make a nation "fake"-it makes it a modern European state. ​Nationalism is blinding. Before calling one of the oldest recorded civilizations in the Balkans "fictional," maybe read a history book that wasn't printed as modern internet propaganda.
