Yes well said. One of the narrow paths to guaranteeing economic security is getting into longshoreman/transit union etc which can strangle society to its benefit. The other paths are owning land, owning a car dealership, or getting tapped by the CIA to be a tech founder

One of the worse trade offs of American society is that in exchange for low unionization rates where much of the workforce is not represented at all, we give random unions in control of chokepoints in the economy guild like privileges.

The most radicalizing content on the internet is old footage of Americans shopping in stores 25 years ago. It's calm, quiet, civil, no fighting, no screaming, no phones, it's not overly crowded. You can't quite describe it, but you miss it so deeply.

@Feminist_Frau_ I don’t know how ‘things’ keep working when the information ecosystem can be flooded by “legitimate sources” to manipulate the markets or public opinion. This isn’t a new problem but definitely seems to have hit a new high given the severe consequences of this conflict continuing

We’re edging mighty close to becoming a “resource-cursed” periphery country. Our natural resources are being mined by a Chilean company, shipped to China for smelting and processing, and then sold back to us as manufactured goods. This is not economic development. This is how we turn into Mexico, Saudi Arabia, etc.
