Very excited to share that I will be joining @RiceUniversity as an assistant professor in @RiceNeuro and @RiceMSNE, starting July 2024 ! My lab will focus on building Cellular and Tissue Bioelectronic Interfaces, and designing/processing materials to further human health.

Trying to decide if I should invest in a high pressure homogenizer (e.g. EmulsiFlex-C3) or equipment for cryogenic grinding (Cryomill) for purification of protein and protein complexes (cells, occasionally tissue). Does anyone have opinions/recommendations?

@chillzaa @ianh0901 I highly recommend PHCbi (formally Panasonic) freezers. Pricier but they last! I have seen several of my colleagues with other brand freezers go down within a few years after purchasing.
Your advice on how to prepare for a freezer failure is helpful for all. Thanks for posting.

Every PIs nightmare... a -80 freezer failure after just 2.5 years. Thankfully, we were there when it happened, all our samples are safe and didn't warm above -65 during transfer to a backup. So what have I learned from this?
