The American communist activists are comfortable behind their hotel walls — generator humming, lights on, air conditioning running — while 99.9% of the Cuban people they claim to care about are sitting in darkness tonight during a nationwide blackout. This is not a coincidence. This is the system working exactly as designed. In communist Cuba, there is a ruling class and there is everyone else. The ruling class gets power — literally. The people get slogans. Code Pink did not travel to Cuba to stand with the Cuban people. They traveled to Cuba to stand against the United States. The Cuban people are props in that story, not its subject. When a real Cuban shows up at their hotel door to point out the difference between what these American activists are experiencing and what his neighbors are experiencing, the irony is too compressed to require commentary. Socialism for thee. Generators for me. This is what solidarity looks like when it's performed rather than practiced — comfortable American leftists flying to a Caribbean island to pose in front of a regime's flag while the people living under that regime can't keep the lights on. Remember the “U.S. citizen” who was pulled from her vehicle and detained in the Florida Keys? Here’s what mainstream media buried: The car she was driving was registered to her husband, an illegal alien. That’s why she was stopped and detained in the first place. She refused to exit or identify herself because she was trying to shield him. He has since been located and detained. The whole “innocent citizen harassed for no reason” story was a deliberate distortion. The media knew the truth and chose not to report it. They are not journalists, they are the enemy of the people, and it is disgusting.
