@grantkirkhope Laying on the living room floor, playing counter co-op on Airbase with my brother, roleplaying silly dialogue... Still feels like it was only a few years back.

youtube.com/watch?v=tvwPKB… I come back to this a lot. Modern film really does feel like you're addicted to processed sugars. Too much reliance on jump cuts, oversaturation of everything, lack of narrative embedded into the actors bodies (eyes, teeth, hair etc) and attire, short term gains over long term success, fear of commitment to our imperfectly perfect world. The textures of life.

I sculpted the FBI’s UFO. Not gonna lie, it would make a pretty sick automaton enemy for my game. They're like part of the "ancient tech" creatures.

@UnrealEngine Half Life 2. I used to roleplay, imagining and talking to myself in the abandoned houses and petrol stations at various points when you travel in the hovercraft and buggy. I was making use of what set dress assets were there and filling the blanks in my head.🤟

To save space on the #GoldenEye #N64 cartridge, the electric guitar part for the intro track played by @grantkirkhope was chopped into segments and triggered in sequence to create the theme. Ingenious! #retrogaming

Pffft! You need to learn to take a compliment! The entire process of developing PD's musical identity, with the limits of the hardware, is/was a bit of a lightning in a bottle moment and definitely required a wizard to respect and marry together. PD is an extra dimension of iconic because of you. 💙

Hey Henning. Firstly, Im sorry that your partner is suffering with this horrible beast. Migraines in their full form are evil. Background context: I suddenly, in 2023, started experiencing screwdriver-in-eyeball migraines a few years ago along with severe vertigo, blurred vision and brain fog for about 25 days of every month. They peaked in the mornings and would last until about 7pm. Sleep did not heal me. Doctors wrote it off as hormonal and shoved a bunch of pills (triptans and then Amitriptyline) at me. I'm now off all of the medication, pain, brain fog and vertigo free 99.5%. What worked for me, after years of trying everything under the sun, was taking Feroglobin tablets daily. Take it with orange juice/something Vit C heavy and with a meal! I wasn't deficient in iron by our NHS standards (which are shite btw). But by Norway's standard, I was incredibly under with depleted iron stores despite not having periods. It took about two months before I really noticed that I wasn't dizzy anymore and I had not been bed bound for quite some time. P.S Personally, I can eat chocolate but if I go mental and eat far more than for one person, I will get zigzags in my vision hours later (no pain though!). Wishing you both the best of luck and lots of support! Here if you ever need to vent when things get tough. They absolutely destroyed my life (lost my job, couldnt even go and buy groceries) and I contemplated some very dark thoughts in the worst of it. Hang in there, youre not alone 🫶

@turtlewowteam This is what happens when a great place is tarnished by one of the biggest scam artists in the private server/modding scene. You deserve this, Torta. Or should I say, Shenna.

Life/nature as a whole is full of patterns. Humans can be phenomenal at extensive creative abstraction from one point of reference, no matter how small. But we are also excellent at finding such patterns/abstraction across life and mediums when that may never have been in the artists mind. I agree with what someone else said about discovery being key to originality. It just begs the question of what is left to discover in this world? Can that run out? Here's a fun one, inspired by his cat flicking a door-stop spring. Can it be considered original? Probably not? youtube.com/watch?v=RwTzxk…

In my recent talk with Chris Wilson I mentioned that the ARPG genre was born because Dave Brevik at first tried to copy X-Com and how one developer trying to copy another and then putting their own twist on it is often how powerful new ideas are born. But I've recently looked at my prototypes from the last 15 years and you can see a clear inspirational starting point in basically all of them - so my approach wasn't that I 'often' did this, but I basically always did. And now I was wondering if I can actually think of any successful game in the past 30 years or so that didn't get some influence from others and frankly... it's exceedingly rare. I thought about it for a few minutes and only came up with Tetris and Katamari. And even that isn't quite fair because Tetris was obviously inspired by Pentomino. So not a videogame, but still a game. And now I've found out that even Katamari was inspired by a japanese sports game named 'tamakorogashi', where students roll a giant ball. And by the way, this applies to all arts in general. When Kurt Cobain first designed the sound for Smells Like Teen Spirit, a track that back in the 90s was seen as introducing a whole new sound, his starting point was to write a song that the Pixies could've come up with. So... unless someone here can come up with an absolutely original game that was made in the past 30 years, I think we should all think long and hard about what this means. Are humans actually incapable of coming up with new ideas that aren't inspired by what came before? Are we all - for lack of a better term - just pattern matching? 🤔

How to 3D paint fur & feathers in Marmoset Toolbag 🐰 Painting complex forms like feathers and fur can be a brushstroke away, no modeling or sculpting required. In this demo, we build a Tile Strip brush, then tweak its settings to quickly paint soft fur and flight feathers.

I have been poked and prodded about playing Mass Effect for the last 13 years and I'm honestly surprised I didn't lose friends over my constant brushing it off. If someone had ever said 'look, Jim Henson creature inspiration is all over this' or leaned on my love of Farscape.. I'd have picked it up in a heartbeat. In short, the art of ME1 is unmatched. Turians have no business looking that good in their armour. I'm about an hour into ME2. I hate Miranda. p.s Pancaked speedboat on monster truck wheels, Mako, for life.

Jeff Kaplan just did his FIRST EVER Twitch stream! 10 hours of raw, unfiltered gameplay of his new game: The Legend of California by @kintsugiyama He installed OBS the night before. No polish. No PR team. Just a guy who used to fill arenas at BlizzCon now streaming from his house. "We'd show a cinematic that was the most amazing cinematic ever, and we just don't have the budget for that here. So this is the ultimate keeping-it-real version of how games are actually made." Here are 10 moments from the stream that stood out 🧵
